His Life

Mr. Ulysses Avery Jr., was born to the late Mr. Ulysses Avery Sr. and Mrs. Mae Rosie Sheally Avery on July 1, 1933 in Chambers County, AL.  He was the eldest child.

 

For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.  I have fought a good fight, and I have finished my course, and kept the faith.  He peacefully parted this life on March 1, 2012 at Lanier Health Services, Valley, AL.

 

He attended Fairfax Elementary and graduated from Lanier High School.

 

At an early age he accepted Christ as lord and savior by joining Mt. Nebo Baptist Church.  He served the lord diligently as an Usher and a member of the Sr. Choir..

 

He was soft spoken man, humble in his words. 

 

Mr. Ulysses was employed by the Lanett Housing Authority and later by West Point Foundry, where he retired from with over 30 years of dedicated service.

 

He was preceded in death by a brother, Royal Avery.

 

He was married to Bessie Ann Freeman and they were blessed with five daughters to cherish his loving memories, Evelyn (Morris) Stewart of Mableton, GA., Rosemary (Nigel) Logan, Valley AL; Robin A. Avery, West Point,GA; Tersia (Darryl) Johnson, Judy D. Avery, LaGrange, GA; Stepsons  Larry(Harriett)Patton,  Valley, AL.  and Kenneth (Eloise) Patton of Riverdale, GA;  four brothers, Eddie Avery, Atlanta, GA; James Avery,  Opelika, AL; Calvin Avery Lanett, AL;  Robert (Barbara) Avery of San Jose, California and four sisters, Idalene Holloway , Doris Reed Lanett, AL.  Sharon(Bernard) Barrow New, NE Velvilan(Ralph) Combs,Lanett, AL;,  18 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
