Wedding Day

January 30, 2015

The thing that I will always remember about Vaughn was how much he loved Pam.  You could always see it in his eyes, and in everything he did.

I remember Pam and Vaughn’s wedding day, how much fun it was, and how graceful Vaughn was from the moment they exchanged vows.  I was a bridesmaid and got to participate in that wonderful ceremony and was so happy to be part of their special day.

The vows were exchanged, they kissed, and came down the aisle as man and wife.  As they were about to leave the church as Mr. & Mrs. Hubbard, Vaughn was so excited to be with the love of his life that he pushed open the double doors of the church, grabbed his beautiful bride’s hand, and they ran down the stairs.  Just then, with Vaughn leading the way, Pam lost her footing, slipped, fell, and rolled down the cement stairs, losing her vail and hair piece!

Pam and Vaughn recovered from that snafu and arrived at their reception in one piece.  There was wonderful food, plenty to drink, and it was such a great reception.  After the reception, as they were getting ready to leave,  Vaughn picked Pam up in his arms, twirled her around…and almost whacked her head on pillar in the middle of the dance floor!  All they did was laugh and smile!  They were so in love!

Love you and miss you Vaughn!  Your love will last forever!

MY HANDSOME SON IN LAW

January 27, 2015

Vaughn my genius son in law who could do anything you set your mind too.  You always amazed me on everything you could do from computers, buidling a car with your son Dustin and designing your beautifu home in Port Ludlow.

Papa and I enjoyed our trips wtih you on your boats and outing at your cabin in Lake Cushman getting clams and oysters and having a big fish fry.  Papa and you shared good times with your deer hunting and fishing through out the years.

One of the funniest times I remember is when we were at the river and papa was in the little boat with you and Papa was on the bow pointing and telling you were to go and pretty soon he went right into the weeds cause you jumped out the back of the boat. So funny Papa was like what the hell Vaughn and you just started laughing.  That was my Vaughn always laughing and making everyone around him laugh.

You made me so proud of the Husband, Father and Papa your were to our Daughter Pam and grandchildren Vonalea and Dusttin and carried it on to our Great Grandchildren Christian,Madison,Parker, Billy, Carson and Cooper.

Your love for the outdoors and boating will be carried on wihtin your family as you taught them how to enjoy life in the simple terms of the beauty of the outdoors.

You were so loved by all of our family and will be missed terribly but will be in our hearts and memories forever.  Love You My Vaughn Nani T

Our Friendship The Hubbards and Flemings

January 27, 2015

Dear Vaughn:  I remember when you and Pam came to work at Lockheed in Seattle.  We soon all became friends and that friendship has continued on for 35 plus years.  We had great time together at the river, on the ski slopes, in the ski lodge, having dinner together and having the shipyard Christmas party at you and Pam's home.  I remember when you were hurt at the shipyard and had to go on disability. But you were bound and determined to endure 20-30 mile bike rides.  What ever you decided to do it was all the way and with GREAT Passion.  When the shipyard closed down and we all had to go different directions in our lives, we still kept in touch.  Dick and I settled in Palmdale CA with Lockheed.  You and Pam met us at Knott's Berry Farm for a FUN evening.  We stole those glass Boot Glasses and waitress came running after us.  We ran faster and escaped her. However when we got to the car, we discovered that the parking lot had closed and locked us in. Oh Shit what do we do now?  We drove around til we found a gate with a phone number and called someone to come let us out. Funny to look back on but not so funny at the time.  The thing I remember the very most about you is What ever your endeavors in life you put your Heart and Soul totally into what ever it was. You loved to deer hunt and no matter how much you hurt you would go and make the most out of if.  The Same with Fishing whether it was lake or oean/sound you would love to go with your son or friends.  The OUTDOORS was your Favorite Place to be.  That was for sure.  We were happy to get to see the cabin and grounds around it up by MT Baker, WA  It looks like you were doing the same thing on the property on the Colorado River. I remember when we came to visit you and Pam at your new Port Ludlow Home.  We were really happy when you decided to move to Monroe, WA.  That is were Dick was born and raised and our daughter and her family live there.  It was one more time we were able to rekindle our friendships.  Remember sitting in the backyard having a few beers and hearing you tell us all about your new venture in Ghost Hunting.  How fun !!!! You had all the equipment and a van to get you were you needed to go.  We enjoyed the times we stayed with you and Pam and had dinner and talked about today, yesterday and tomorow.  I remember hearing about the Great Camp outs at the local lake there in Monroe.  All the Grandkids would join you for a week of Fun.  Your Grandchildren were very fortunate to have such a loving and caring Grandpa. Pam was very fortunate to have such a loving and caring husband. We were very fortunate to have you and Pam in our lives for all these years.  It is true what they say:  Distance does not change a true friendship.
We are however Very Sad that you were called to Heaven way to soon.  We hope God has a lot of Projects lined up for you.

Rest in Peace  God Bless  Love XOXOX Dick and Karen

Memories of Uncle Fun

January 26, 2015

I have many fond memories of my brother-in-law, Vaughn.

He said to me right after Tom and I were married, “So what are you going to call her?”, meaning our mother-in-law, which is something only he and I shared.  We agreed that we would call her “Nani”.

We also shared a love of music and sang a lot of karaoke together.

Our family watched the movie “Captain Ron” and immediately thought of Vaughn with all the boating and craziness.  From then on, we called Vaughn, Captain Ron and later celebrated his birthday, in a limo, with pirate patches and KFC.

He entertained us with stories of his high school adventures, riding a random horse through the school, eating two lunches by saying he was a twin,  (Carl Hubbard) and other mischief, like stealing gasoline from the school sports supply.  He was such a character with a zeal for life and adventure!

Love you!

Patty

Uncle Vaughn's cars

January 26, 2015

We took a vacation up to Washington when the kids were little. Vaughn and Pam  wanted us to have a break from the kids. So we went up to Vancouver Canada for the day and to spend the night.  Vaughn and Pam let us use their car for the trip.  This was the Oldsmobile station wagon, that looked okay for the mini trip.  Well we took off early for a fun trip. The weather was raining, (Seattle). I was thinking no problem the car is used to rain.  Well I turned on the windshield wipers to find out that Vaughn had Baggies tied on the wiper blades to hold them in place.  I guess Vaughn had x-ray vision but we couldn’t see a thing.  I pulled over to the first gas station and put on new wipers on.  Ok I thought now we could go, everything else looked good.  The car seemed a little bouncy.  Patty and I were laughing all the way up to Vancouver. When we pulled up to the Vancouver Canada border crossing we stopped to talk to the Border check person.  I stopped but the car was bouncing up and down the whole time when we were talking to him, we were laughing so hard we even had the guy laughing.  I told him this was my brother-in-law’s car. We drove off laughing.  I’m not sure if Vaughn ever replaced the shocks or used something else.

The new kid in PE class

January 23, 2015

I met Vaughn in my 8th or 9th grade PE class at the very mixed race O'Ferrall Junior high school.  The Watts riots were coming soon and the class, and in fact the entire school, was dominated by tough African American kids who bullied the white kids mercilessly.  If anyone dared to stand up to them, they would be jumped after school by as many other kids as it took.  PE classes were especially bad.

Then one day this smallish, fairly thin white kid shows up in class.  The bullies immediately started in on him and he immediately stood up to them.  I didn't even know him, but I was already so proud of him.  Either he didn't know what was coming to him later or he didn't care.  I'm sure he had to fight a lot of fights, but his courage inspired others until by high school at Morse, all the kids of all races were getting along.  I really believe he changed the whole racial dynamic for me and a lot of other kids caught up in those violent days.

I didn't go on to become one of Vaughn's good friends or keep up with him and his exploits over the years, although if I had known he lived in Washington, I would have looked him up sometime.  But I never forgot about him.  He taught me to stand up for myself.

"We are all travelers in this world
From birth till death
from the sweet grass
to the packing house,
we travel between the two eternities".

May we meet again Vaughn, you were one cool dude.  Daniel

The Claw !!!

January 22, 2015

As long as I can remember, everytime I would see Vaughn, when I was least expecting it, he would always lightly grab my stomach with a contorted hand and say with a big smile "The Claw!!!!"

I always knew it was coming, but never knew when.  The one thing I would always count on when I saw Vaughn was his "claw" catching me by surprise.  His big smile, his jolly laugh, accompanied by his loving "claw."

Love you and miss you Vaughn "The Claw."

One of Vaughn's Loves - Food...

January 22, 2015

I always loved how much Vaughn loved his food. There are so many times Vaughn's excitement to eat would find him in a funny situation.

I remember one time we went out to eat at a Mongolian Grill. We all went through the line, had our food prepared on the grill and sat down to eat. Vaughn started sweating really bad saying, "boy this sure is spicy!" Dustin responded, "I was wondering why you put so much crushed red pepper on your food?" Vaughn looked at him perplexed, "I thought those were bacon bits!?" Needless to say we had a really good laugh.

Another funny time was during Thanksgiving Pam had prepared some special butter that had bacon and cheese in it.  She had them in little cups all over the table.  Vaughn suddenly came up spooned up a huge clump of butter.  Just as he was putting it in his mouth Pam screamed, "VAUGHN what are you doing - that's butter?!"  Vaughn responded, "Oh woops, I thought it was potato salad."

I will miss you Vaughn and am so grateful to you for creating such an amazing son.

The Love of my Life

January 22, 2015

Where do I start I fell in love with Vaughn the day I meet him in 1965.  We had just moved into a neighborhood called Heritage Homed after moving from Tulsa Oklahoma.  I was so excited to be in California with all the surfers.  When I saw the surfer boy that lived down the street named Vaughn I was in love.  He asked me what my name was and since it was a time when all the beach movies were out with (Frankie and Annette ) I in my Oaklahoma draw said Gidget  its been a standard joke within the family since.

Vaughn 's life from the time we had our children Vonalea and Dustn became all about family.  What ever he decided to take up as a new adventure it was a family adventure, biking, skiing, dirt bike riding, river inner tubing, boating (his true passion)  camping to sitting around a campfire telling stories of how the west was won. ( He loved Western movies and  the history of the frontier man.

Our family was truly blessed  for me to have Vaughn as my husband and the father of our children.  His first love in life was Family.  As my husband he showered me in love and  their was nothing he wouldn't do for his Princess.  As a father he was a role model for his children always.  He taught his son how to treat a woman  and his daughter how a husband should treat his wife by the way he treated their mother.  He taught these things not with words but by his actions.

Vaughn my love I loved you more than life itself.  We had a love that most don't get we were the lucky ones.  I have all our beautiful memories to cherish for always. My heart is so heavy as I have to say goodby for now but  just knowing you are with our Lord doing projects to get my eternal home ready for me to join you in the future will give me peace.

Tell we meet again my love . Your Loving Wife Pam XOXO

My Vaughn was a man full of life and compassion , he never missed an opportunity to help a family member or a stranger .

January 22, 2015

I will always remember looking forward to coming over to Aunt Pam & Uncle Vaughn's house for the holidays. It was nice when all the family got together and shared a laugh. I remember the projector TV in their downstairs and how we used to mess with it and Uncle Vaughn would come down like What are you two up to? But he never seemed too mad at us :-) I always remember their house to be so loving and warm. It wasn't until I saw the pictures that Dustin posted that I remembered that VW Bug my mom gave him for his birthday. I remember my brother Bobby thought that bug was so cool.
I am grateful for the time I got to spend with Uncle Vaughn. He was a great man with a huge heart. And I really think it's so awesome that him and Aunt Pam have been together for 50 years! Wow, that is such a rare thing and I always thought it was wonderful to see the love and happiness in all of their pictures after so long together :-) I love you Uncle!
