Her Life

Velma Irene (Holland) Cadle, 77, was born on January 14, 1922, to Tommy H. Holland and Ida Belle (Cole) Holland at Montauk, Missouri. She went home to be with the Lord on August 20, 1999, at Licking, Missouri. She was married to Byron Joseph "Barney" Cadle on October 3, 1942, and to this union five children were born. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, two brothers, Otto and Eldon Holland; one grandson, Robert Dean White and one son-in-law, William Lloyd White.

Velma graduated from Licking High School and taught at many rural schools in the area. For many years, she managed Cahill's Store and Cabins and was the assistant postmaster at Montauk. She loved gardening, both flower and vegetable, and at one time tended almost one hundred rose bushes. She enjoyed feeding birds, picking wild berries, and cooking favorite foods for her family.

Velma became a Christian at an early age at Hepsoda Baptist Church. She was a willing servant of the Lord, Bible schoolteacher, Sunday school teacher, song leader, and camp counselor. She was a member of Montauk Baptist Church at the time of her death, and throughout her twenty-three year battle with pain her faith never wavered.

She is survived by her husband, Barney, of the home; four daughters and their husbands, Bonnie and Bud Berry of Sterling Heights, Michigan; Bonita (sic) and Gary Cavaness of Robertsville, MO; Jeanie and Richard Grover of Licking, MO; Brenda and Kevin McGowen of Houston, MO; and one son and daughter-in-law, Byron"Joe" and Pattie Cadle of Licking, MO.

She is survived by her sisters, Goldie King, Beulah Floyd, and Cledith Hubbs, and two sisters-in-law, Virginia Holland and Elenora Holland, all of Licking.

She was a loving grandmother to thirteen grandchildren: Beverly Campbell, Chris White, Imalea Berry, Shannon Miller, Amy Miller, Anita Long, Byron Grover, Diane Davis, Scott Robertson, Bradley Robertson, Andrew Robertson and Megan McGowen. She is survived by great-grandchildren: Justin, Clayton, and Tyler Long; Suzanna, Stephanie, Sarah, and Sabrina Campbell, Joy Grover, Blaine and Dillon Davis. She is also survived by one foster granddaughter, Debbie Powell, husband Don, and daughter, Danyelle of Houston, MO.

Services were held Sunday, August 22, 1999, at 2:00 p.m. at Fox Chapel with Rev. Leroy Nixon officiating. Pallbearers were: Scott Robertson, Bradley Robertson, Andrew Robertson, Brock Davis, Robin Campbell and Byron Grover. Honorary pallbearers were: Marshall Hagler, Lenzy King, Bruce Stevenson, Dean Hubbs, Omer Floyd, Todd Long, Don Powell and Chris White. Burial was in Patterson Cemetery under the directions of Fox Funeral Home of Licking.
