I met Vern through my Mom and Sandra's Master Gardener friendship. He was instantly 'my friend' and the light of my visits with my folks. We began with martini bonding, and boy could we have fun! I was lucky to spend my birthday in June at dinner with him and Sandra... something I drove over to do, and it was a beautiful day, and a fun evening just before his last illness. So glad we did it. And Sandra let me visit him at OHSU, which was a dear memory. He was such a great guy: it's hard to describe him in words.
I will miss him terribly, and hope Sandra can recover from his passing.

I remember first meeting Vern at a neighbors ~ quiet, composed, grounded. I SO enjoyed talking with him about his careers, those conversations help "shape" me for my next season of life. "Gone, but not forgotten". Thank you for all you did for so many people Vern.
Sandra, I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
