His Life

Mr. Smith was born in Crossville, Tennessee on June 7, 1943, the son of the late Martha Jane Beyer Smith and Dewey George Smith. He was a Retired Chief Petty Officer, United States Navy. He served his country gallantly during the Vietnam Conflict. For his great allegiance to his country he received the Meritorious Unit Commendation; 2ND Combat Action Ribbon, Navy Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal; National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal W/Fleet Marine Forcer Insignia, Technical Service Medal 2nd Class, Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation. After his retirement from the Navy he then worked until he completed a second retirement with the United States Postal Service. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He was especially fond of the grandchildren. Mr. Smith was a man of great integrity he gave greatly to his country and all he knew. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Joyce Hembree Smith of Douglasville, GA.; two sons Darold Wiggins of Franklin, GA, and Dwayne Wiggins (April) of Conyers, GA.; four sisters, Vancineta Wisdom, Jessie Dean (Warren), Linda Moffett (Ken), Velma Burgess (Dave) all of Crossville, TN.; three brothers, John Lee Smith (Eunice) of Crossville, TN., Delmer Smith (Monica) of Shalimar, FL., and Nowell Smith (Vicky) Lebanon, TN.; grandchildren, Chafin and Justin Pitts, Brett Wiggins, Brandon Wiggins, Daulton Wiggins, and Caitlin Wiggins.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Sherrill, and four brothers, Robert, Alfonso, Franklin, and Ronald Smith.
