Her Life

Violet Delight McComb

January 31, 2012

Surrounded by her loving family, Violet McComb was called home to be with Jesus Christ on Sunday, January 22, 2012 after a long and hard-fought battle with cancer. She was born March 28,1935 at her grandparent's home in Sumner, WA, to Esther Royer Stritmatter and Roy Stritmatter. She grew up in Hoquiam, Wa. where her father had a seafood business. Some of her favorite childhood memories were digging razor clams on the ocean beach, staying at the family cabin at Lake Quinault, watching Gene Autry and Roy Rogers movies at the Saturday matinee and spending time with her grandparents.

Violet moved to Seattle her senior year in high school and graduated from Roosevelt High in 1953. While living in Seattle she met and married Kay McComb, a Navy sailor. During her time as a Navy wife she lived in Seattle and Hawaii and started her family. The family continued to grow and settled in Burien, WA, in 1957. Violet stayed busy taking care of her family and working as a secretary. As her children married and the grandchildren were born, Violet loved her new role as a grandmother. She retired from Boeing in 2000.

After retirement Violet started her second career as a foster mother, providing a loving home for several children. Mom enjoyed cooking and her home-made rolls and chicken and noodles were loved by everyone. She looked forward to the annual Stritmatter/Royer family picnic and getting together for reunions with her Hoquiam High classmates. Mom had a strong faith and was a long time member of Glendale Lutheran Church in Burien. She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother and friend and she will be missed by all.

Violet is survived by her children Mike McComb, Debbie Swanson, Tim McComb and Karen Arbuckle,

Son-in law Jim Arbuckle and daughters-in-law  Polly and Margaret  McComb,

Grandchildren Bryce and Andy(Kristina) McComb, Mindy Swanson, Angie(Ron) Daniels, Stacy and Jennnifer Arbuckle, Matt(Maggie) and Sean(Lacey) McComb,

Violet was preceded in death by her sister Pearl Miller, and brothers Richard and Leroy Stritmatter.

Per Violet's request, there will be no memorial service. Her ashes will be spread near her beloved Lake Quinault.
