Mrs. Violet Osborne Overton Lacy passed away January 14, 2016 at Briarcliff Haven Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Atlanta, Georgia, at the age of 81.
She was born May 5, 1934 in Granville County North Carolina. She attended and graduated from Oxford High School, Mars Hill College, Meredith College, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She received degrees in History, Education and Social Work.
She had worked as a Social Caseworker for the Department of Welfare in Charlottesville, Virginia. She had also been Director of Religious Education at Durham Memorial Baptist Church and Holloway Street Baptist Church in Durham, North Carolina. While in Atlanta she was involved in numerous civic and religious organizations.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, January 21, 2016 at Elmwood Cemetery in Oxford, North Carolina by Rev. Stan Jenkins.
She was preceded in death by a son Alexander Bustard Lacy III, parents, Aaron and Genella Overton, a brother, Harry Lee Overton, as well as two sisters, Louella Smith and Frances Wysocki. She is survived by one sister, Yvonne Jones (J.P.) of La Crosse, Virginia, eleven nieces and seven nephews.
