Virginia's Life From Her Obituary In 1995

Whereas it was God's will to take fromour midst Mrs. Beatrice Virginia Phillips ( A loving Wife and Mother) who departed this life on August 27, 1995 at 8:00pm we lovingly share her legacy with you.

Virginia was born to Emma and James Boyd on January 20, 1923 in Lillington, North Carolina. She attended Hawkins High in Warrenton, NC and DeShazor's Beauty School in Durham, NC.  In 1948, in the city of New York, she met her first and only love Charles Phillips who was attending Mortuary School there. They were united in holy matrimony on the most romantic day of the following year (Valentine's Day 1949) She called him "Snoop" and he always called her "My Girl."  From this union 2 daughters and one son were born.

Charles and Virginina returned to Raleigh in 1953 when Charles entered the Air Force after serving in the US Navy.  Virginia was a housewife and a well known beautician in Raleigh.  Years afterward they relocated back to New York where they lived until they both retired. Virginia retired from Tyme Letter Service as a Mail Order Clerk.

Throughout her life she enjoyed watching and participating in Basketball and baseball. Of the two, her  most passionate sporting interest was Basketball, which she also played in high school.  Her favorit NBA team was the New York Knicks. Her other love besides her family of course, was reading the bible and shopping.

Virginia was a person who always gave respect and in turn she earned respect of others. She devoted her whole life to raising and caring for her children, grandchildren, and other family members. She was a very loving, caring, mother, wife, sister, aunt, and friend.  Her children acknowledged her loving support to them and they took pride in acknoledging her outstanding contributions throughout their lives.  They loved her dearly.   At an early age, she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior.  She began her walk with the Shallow Baptist Church in Arcola, NC and continued at Macedonia United Church of Christ in Raleigh, NC..

At the time of her death she left to cherish; her devoted husband- Charles Phillips, one son- Charles Phillilps Fr. of Queens, New York; two daughters- Deborah Pickett  Crystal Bodie of Raleigh; one sister - Queen Evans of Queens, New York; One brother - James Boyd of Arcola, NC; two half sisters Claudia Thorton of Warrenton, NC and Queenie McNeil of Duham, NC. One son in law, one grandaughter, three drand daughters, sisters in laws, brother in law, numberous nieces, nephews, cousins; and life long relatives and friends.  Virginia was a phenomenal woman indeed.
