1943 – 2016
Warren Volpe Jr., 73, passed away surrounded by his family on Friday, September 2, 2016 at his home in Lake Elizabeth, CA due to pancreatic cancer. He was born to Guerino and Marianna (Santolla) Volpe on July 6, 1943 in Bronx, NY.
He was seven when he moved with his family to Hollywood, CA. He attended Hollywood High and obtained a B.A. degree in Psychology from UCLA and a teaching credential from CSU Northridge. He also attended UNAM University in Mexico City where he learned to speak fluent Spanish.
A veteran of the Vietnam War, Warren served in Japan as a paramedic for the US Army Medical Corps of the 85th Evac and 106 Field Hospital, where he provided medical treatment and rehabilitation to injured soldiers, and toured several of the country’s cities by bicycle.
He always kept busy and loved to read and study Astrology, Meditation and the art of how a child learns to read. He collected musical instruments and records, amongst other things. He also enjoyed listening and making music, renovating old houses, traveling and visiting friends and family.
He worked for the LAUSD as a kindergarten teacher for Ramona Elementary School in Hollywood for 35 years and taught hundreds of children to read. There he was known as Mr. Volpe and created deep friendships with many of his fellow teachers and students.
He is survived by his ex-wife Graciela Volpe (Vilar) and their 3 daughters: Brisa (Jason) Boyer, Christian (Brian) FitzGerald and Alexis Volpe; grandchildren: Emiliano Volpe, Bryson and Payton Boyer, James, Grace, and Sarah FitzGerald, and Massimo Volpe Govil; his sister Rosalie (Ralph) Foster; his brother Silvio (Kathleen) Volpe; his domestic partner Andrea Giampaolo. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Saverio and William Volpe and his sister Grace Valent.
A Funeral Mass for Warren will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday , November 5, 2016 at 10A.M. at St. Peter's Italian Church, 1039 N. Broadway, Los Angeles, CA 90012. A Memorial Service will follow next door at Casa Italiana. Please rsvp to firstname.lastname@example.org.
