OBITUARY

January 25, 2015

Wendy Kay Lacey of Albuquerque, New Mexico, died Thursday, January 22, 2015, in University of New Mexico Hospital. Wendy was fatally struck by a motor vehicle on her morning walk.

Wendy was born in Long Beach, California, on January 24, 1939 to Wendell and Mary Lacey.  The family settled on Bainbridge Island, Washington where she was raised.  Wendy attended Bainbridge High School and graduated in 1956.  She then went on to University of Washington.  She graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Chemistry in 1960.

Wendy worked a variety of jobs before returning to her love of chemistry.  She worked in Radiological Control and other radiation protection positions at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, at Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant and at Hanford Nuclear Reservation.  After retiring, Wendy found pleasure and purpose in volunteer work, most notably with the Lions Club in Olympia, Washington, and as a docent for the Atomic Museum in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Wendy was passionate about many things; but her top joys included her family (and their pets), her dog Skipper, radiation protection, nuclear science, geology, hot air balloons, and talk radio. Wendy loved information and facts and really loved to laugh.

Wendy is survived by her three children: daughter Alla, her spouse Chicora, and Alla’s three children, Camillia, Dylan, and Tess; son Hugh, his wife Karen, and their two daughters, Shannon and Rachel; daughter Maya, her husband Dameon, and their son, Jeffry. She is also survived by her Aunt, Rosalie. She was preceded in death by her beloved younger brother, Timothy.

A celebration of life ceremony will be held on 18 July at 1:00 pm. in Richland, Washington. Ceremony location: Events at Sunset, 915 By-Pass Highway. Our mother found funerals depressing and hence we are going to celebrate her life with stories and laughter as much as possible. Her favorite color was blue so you can honor her memory by wearing that. If you don't have blue, wear your favorite color. Casual and colorful attire is encouraged.

Wendy's favorite charities are the Humane Society and the Yellow Ribbon Fund and she would prefer that donations in her name were made in lieu of flowers.
