His Life

Bill Sharrett 1925 - 20012

February 4, 2013

I am hoping that some of Bill's friends and family will help me by filling in the gaps in his life story or sharing their stories of him.

I know he was born in Dunstable in 1925 and lived in Eaton Bray on Honeywick Farm, but I did not meet him until very much later in his life. He and his ex-wife Eileen were friends of my parents, I also know that he lived on Marine Drive in the picturesque seaside village of Schoenmakerskop, Port Elizabeth, in South Africa for many years. My mum, Betty, moved into his home there to look after him when she finished work and lost the cottage which went with her job, when she retired.  He always spoke to me fondly of his memories of Schoenies, as he called it.

I have since found this website:  http://www.facebook.com/pages/FRIENDS-OF-SCHOENMAKERSKOP/177094751632    I can see from the pictures posted on there it is a beautiful place. He had  many friends living there both in the village and also in Sappershoek on Marine Drive. Thanks to Luc for hosting this page and sharing with us all.

He was a proud Mason of many years standing his home lodge was in Dunstable in the UK, but he was also a long time member of the Cape of Goodhope lodge In PE.

After Bill died, I had both his and Betty's ashes scattered in a plot here: http://www.gwentcrematorium.org.uk/
