My name is Ford Monell. I am the son of Dr. William C. Monell and was delivered by Dr. Lucas in April 1965 at Bethesda Naval Hospital when both he and my Dad served as Navy doctors there. My mother, Susan Monell, saw the Obit in the UT and gave it to me this past weekend. Thank you for your service Dr. Lucas and blessings to your family.

My name is Catherine. I am a nurse and worked with your father at the OB/GYN clinic in Medford. He was a kind, caring man and taught me much as we worked together. One day a patient called and asked who was the best Gyn/Oncologist west of the Mississippi. I asked him and he gave me a number to call regarding physicians. I came back and said, "They gave me your name Dr. Lucas". He smiled and said nothing. I asked why his abilities as a surgeon did not create a huge ego. He, again, smiled and said "My beautiful wife prevents me from getting an over developed ego". I asked how and he said, "little things, like if a drop my fork when eating; she will say, ah the great surgeon has dropped his instrument. Brings me back to reality." I have thought of him often and smile every time. God bless all of you in your time of sorrow.
