Mr. William Marshall Cannady, Jr., 74, of Oxford, NC passed away on Monday, December 25, 2017 at the W.G. Hefner Veterans Affairs Medical Center Hospice House in Salisbury after a battle with cancer. Mr. Cannady was born November 9, 1943 in Ardmore, OK, son of the late William Marshall and Mrs. Ruby Claire Faulkner Cannady. He graduated from Oxford High School before attending college at Mars Hill, Atlantic Christian College and East Carolina University where he studied history and literature. He served his country in the U.S. Navy for over five years where he developed a love of ships and stories of great Naval missions.
Bubba, as he was affectionately called, was a loving son, brother and uncle to his nieces, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was always quick with a smile, a kind word and a funny comment. He was a kind and gentle soul who loved the Lord and carried a well worn Bible. He touched the hearts of many and was loved by his caretakers, friends and family. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the many generous and caring nurses, doctors, staff and administrators at both Riverpoint Rehabilitation Center in Virginia Beach and the W.G. Hefner VA Medical Center Hospice House in Salisbury, NC, where Bubba was blessed to be surrounded by family members for the last few weeks of his life.
Mr. Cannady is survived by his brother, David Cannady of Winston-Salem; his two nieces, Camille Cannady Hartnett with her husband, Mike and their children, Abigail and Gavin of Huntersville; and Nicole Cannady with her children, Ruby and Georgia of Winston-Salem.
