BIOGRAPHY OF MRS. ADEBANKE ADEDUNMOLA JOHNSON (1956-2014)

Adebanke was the
second of five children and the only daughter of 'Papa Lawyer' - the Late Prince Christopher Adeyeye Fajemisin and Mrs. Elizabeth Adefolami Fajemisin(nee Ogundero).

Papa Lawyer raised all his children in an extremely disciplined way and it was from him that Adebanke learned much of her attitude. Growing up in a house full of boys, Adebanke enjoyed so much protection from Papa Lawyer. He always said she was the most intelligent and the only one smart enough to study Law.

Adebanke attended St. Johns Primary School, Ilesa and obtained her Secondary School education at Christ School, Ado-Ekiti. She completed her A-level at the Polytechnic, Ibadan and studied law at the University of Lagos where she graduated in 1980. She met the love of her life Kehinde Johnson, during a vacation job at the Student Affairs Office in the University of Lagos while he was on an MBA program in the Graduate School of Business in 1977. They got married on 26th April, 1980. Adebanke Adedunmola Johnson was thereafter called to the Nigerian Bar as a Barrister and Solicitor in 1981. 

Adebanke undertook the examination of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators in 1991 and was admitted to be a Fellow. Subsequently in 2003, she earned a Masters in Law at the same University of Lagos.


Work & Career

After the completion of her University education, Adebanke did her National Youth Service at the Nigerian Bank for Commerce and Industry in 1983 where she spent the next eight years rising from the role of Legal Assistant to the Assistant Company Secretary position.
From 1991 to 1994 she took on the role of Legal Advisor/Company Secretary of Triple Tee Kay Limited. She moved on to assume the role of General Manager at Turn Around Managers (TAM) Limited from 1995 – 1997.
Adebanke worked as a Legal Counsel for the Law Chamber of M.I. Jegede & Co. from 1998 – 2001.
She later worked as the Company Secretary and Legal Advisor for Nigerdock Nigeria Limited from 2001 - 2003. At Nigerdock she ensured all legal requirements were met on the sale of the Company, and that there was a smooth transition of the parastatal from a Government Agency to a Private Company. Adebanke moved on to run the firm of Akhigbe & Co. Solicitors in Abuja for one year.

While Adebanke enjoyed an illustrious career in the corporate world, she was an Entrepreneur and Business Woman at heart. She ran her own Chambers "A.A. Johnson & Co. (Fajemisin Chambers)" were she served as Managing Solicitor.
She also started a variety of other businesses including a Hair Dressing Salon, Catering Services and an auxiliary Office Space Services Company.

Her Faith

Mrs. Adebanke Adedunmola Johnson was an active member of the Redeemed Christian Church of God and worked in pastoral capacity in Glory House Parish. She had great passion for God and was very compassionate about others. She adopted children and encouraged her friends to do likewise. She was a great listener and always ready to help a friend whenever the need arose. Adebanke was a virtuous woman. Her husband, children and brothers were paramount to her and she raised four awesome children- Babatunde, Adeyosola, Olasupo and Adebidola.

The Late Mrs. Adebanke Adedunmola Johnson was a sociable and caring person. She cherished good family life and tried to inculcate its ideals in those close to her. She took great interest in public-spirited, social and religious activities.

Adebanke peacefully passed away on Sunday, 27th April, 2014.

She is survived by her husband, Kenny Johnson, and children, Tunde, Yosola, Supo , Bidola and her Siblings, Cousins and Aunts.
