Uncle Yinka, I still can’t believe I am writing a tribute because of your passing.

I can still remember the joyful countenance he always exhibited whenever he sees us, the cheerfulness in him and the unending generosity - that was his unique identity.

Words cannot describe this difficult moment, but if this is the last time we get to say goodbye then we know we will do so with the knowledge that we consider ourself blessed to have lived this life as your nieces and nephew. May his soul rest in the bosom of the Almighty God.

Love from Tolu, Tayo, Tosin and Tobi.

Aside from bringing me into this world and nurturing me, you always made sure I was well protected and provided for. I owe you more than I could ever give in a lifetime.

It hurts to know you are not here anymore. I can’t help but smile at all the memories and great times we had. I’m glad I hugged you every chance I had. Till we meet again dad, I love you.

What shall I unto the Lord, all I have to say is thank you Lord the bible says in all things we should give thank's to God. Yinka is gone to res with the lord, but the memories of his sojourn here on earth shall linger in the heart of the loved ones. Yinka was selfless and restless. He was everything to me, a brother a confidant and a friend in fact, I got to know my wife through him. He was altruistic to some extent. A good example was at a family ceremonial gathering at home in Ilesa he received a call from some of his numerous friends and the next thing he did was te excuse himself the he would soon be back. He came back the following day having gone to help the friend whose vehicle was impounded by the customs close to Benin. The Las discussion I had with him was when he called to ask me what I think about refurbishing our late dad tomb. I told him not to worry himself as I have somebody working around the area whom we can call to do the work he kept quiet for a while and said okay brother. Less that two weeks later I received a rude shock on Thursday 5th May that someone posted on the internet that Yinka has passed. Devastation is a small word to describe my feelings since because I never knew he was in the hospital. He had many unfinished projects but unto Jesus we all surrender. Pele omo owa omo ekun omo aluwonwon goke omo mopo oju o leje omi toro loju usun omo ilu meta aafin sun re o. Rest in peace in the bosom of our Lord.

My “ever-cheerful” Brother Yinka

Brother Yinka, my sportsman brother, I still remember your signature bubbly spirit right from when I was growing up as your younger brother, up through my adulthood.

You played a key role in my life, right from picking me home in my primary school days, to teaching me how to drive, to being the assertive and outspoken elder brother who convinced our parents to allow me proceed to University, even though they thought I was too young.

Your consistent strong confidence in me was a big contributor to the positive perspective I have to life, and for that, myself and many others will always give thanks to Almighty God for the life you lived.

Brother Yinka, you always had this magnetic, friendly, and cheerful air around you, and this is a legacy that will forever live in our hearts.

We do love you, but indeed our awesome God loves you more, and we do know you are in HIS better place.

Sun re o, my big brother Yinka.

Good nite bro. Will sorely miss you. Sengbe I called to tease you and you would instantly reply oriedaru. We did so many things together...sports, parties, PC matters, pranks , boys activities that will always bring your fond memories. Sometimes you would hail "Balogun ola" mimicking Alhaji whenever some successes were recorded. Yes, numerous cases to bring back your memories. Sad with your untimely sudden exit. You called me just few days ago....Figgy, mo ni ki ngburo e ni o , without leaving a sign you were biding me a good bye. Sleep on brother. May your soul rest in peace. FIGARO

Uncle Yinka....

Cant believe its indeed so long and farewell...

You were the only male figure in my life for so long, from forever you called me "abinco suzy " and always had my back. My fond memories are numerous but so vivid is the April fool prank you played on your sister in Orita Challenge we sure had a good laugh, then our few meetups in London (you had the ijesha stint in your jokes every time).

I am grateful for the joy and support you gave in my formative years. I pray the good Lord to strengthen Aunty Kehinde & Olayemi to bear and go through this season..

Goodbye Uncle Yinka

Yinka aka Baba KUDI was a Distinguished Classmate at ODUDUWA COLLEGE ILE IFE 1974 to 1979 Set. Unfortunately we last saw him in October 2018 during the Reunion Party to plan our 40 years Anniversary of leaving the College.
He was a great Footballer while in College and belonged to MOREMI HOUSE.
Our paths crossed thereafter at Union Bank Osogbo and Ile Ife respectively.
I remember that you inadvertently missed my Installation as SOOKO ABON OF ILE IFE on 20th May 2017.
I last spoke with him on 29th March while discussing a Banking Consulting job with him. So sad that he died on the day I requested for his date of Birth. Adieu Great OCOSA....

How I wish you were here and it was another funeral we were attending together just like we did Sunny J's' in Ilesha! The Sunny J you were suppose to discuss with about something and you kept delaying and delaying and delaying till he died and every one was in shock.

Your transition again further buttresses the pointlessness of it all to some of us and also that maybe it is better not to have been born at all, and if one must eventually see the light , the next best thing is to quickly return whence we came. As you have done. A faithful servant that you are.

I am glad I met you while you were here with us and your contributions as a paternal influence on me will forever be cherished. I will never forget the times we spent together and the laughs we had together and I still do alone whenever I remember you

Right from the first day I met you when you were at Union Bank Oshogbo and how you assisted me when I wanted to start selling tickets to the Entrance of the waterfall at Erin Ijesha a place we would later go together several times.

How you made me rub your legs and arms for several hours in one day with the promise that you will let me marry your daughter. LOL

You introduced me to insurance while we were both exploring the depths of Orlando Owo's and Ayinla Omo Wura's Music together.

The phase is over for you. its still passing for us. You rest on uncle Yinka ( My Bank Manager) and enjoy the other side as well if there be any.

This is still a rude shock!

I was asleep when I got the news and I couldn't process it. The latest memory I have was in Abuja when dad told me you were coming and should meet you up. Funny how I still joked about that night incident where we were wining and you said e se jeje o and how you called me to meet you at FRSC's Mess on a sunday to pick the Sienna. Hmmmmn! God of heaven knows this is hard to bear... Our jaiye jaiye uncle with chills vibes. Olayemi would have been craving for you to reap the fruit of your labour!

Memories of how you drove all the way from Ilesha to Abuja, till you landed in Maraba (LOL) and you were calling. What about the tollgate chronicles? I know you are resting in God's bossom.

Adieu Uncle Yinka!

I thank God for the life He gave you, for the love you showed us, for the smiles and outings, for the wonderful stories we always looked forward too. The tanko football too hard for me to kick as a kid at Orita Challenge, Ibadan. For the trips to Lagos for Yokees 10th birthday. You were a gift to us and you got a nickname for me Gbenguze, the way you called it makes me laugh. The Ileya's and the pictures of us with you at Akure. You were a diamond, always optimistic. Uncle You rock with that beautiful soul. I miss you my big uncle though I know you are in a better place. Enjoy God's presence with the angels.

Adeyinka, my darling brother, you will be greatly missed. In family line, you were next to me, so we shared a lot together through the years growing up to adulthood. When I was in the First Bank and couldn't get you in, you were offered the opportunity in Union Bank through God's grace. You rose through the ranks, worked so hard, got certified as a Banker. So dedicated and well disciplined worker.

Great sportsman - football and tennis player. You were so loving, kind and selfless in giving attention to your siblings. My children cannot forget their loving Uncle. Same goes for so many of your nieces and nephews. You touched lives. My husband will miss you sorely because you always had a lot to discuss during your visits - from politics, sports, finance etc.

I give God all the glory for your life and times. Sleep on beloved brother. It is well.

Uncle Yinka was such an active person; a footballer, tennis player, active sportsman, an astute banker. He was very knowledgeable and always bubbling and smiling.

I always wanted to become a banker when I was small, simply because I liked the way you appear in your starched shirts and sleeve holder... and I did become one!

You will be greatly missed by the whole family, friends and colleagues you left behind. We love you but God loves you more!

Rest On Uncle, Rest On Uncle Yinka!

A letter to my Father

June 5, 2021
Happy Birthday Daddy I can’t believe you’ve been gone for one month already. It feels just like yesterday when I gave you a peck on your cheek at the hospital while you slept like a baby, you smiled in your sleep and looked so handsome. I remember thinking to myself “My father is so fine”. The night before you departed this sinful world, you teased me about so many things. You scolded me about late night driving (very funny because I actually got this from you), we exchanged jokes, you said my butt was getting too big so I should go and marry, we all laughed and prayed after that. You made my mum and I lift you into a different position on the bed so you could be more comfortable. I never knew that was the last time I was going to hold your warm body. You made a statement after that “My Daughter is strong” I never knew this was the ‘Strong’ you were referring to o Baba Yemi!

Daddy, I miss you so much! I miss your jokes, I miss your stories, I miss your husky one in a million voice(oh I miss it so much), I miss your legendary snoring, I miss your smile and I even miss your scowl, I miss you everyday, everything reminds me of you. If bowls of tears could bring you back, I’m sure you’ll be by my side right now. I’m still in shock, I’ve not gotten over your demise, I’m still adapting to this unexpected change, I never imagined you not being here, I wasn’t prepared for life without you. I would always run to you and grumble whenever I got tired of adulting, you never got tired of my numerous complaints. Your first priority was to make sure I was okay. You gave me everything I needed, even when you had to go extra miles, you always made sure I was sorted.

Even when you were in pain Daddy, you were strong for me. You told me in the hospital  “Olayemi! Don’t be scared, I’m not going anywhere”. I know you didn’t want to leave us, but God loves you more and wanted you with him. I’m happy you are no longer in pain, You are finally resting Daddy. I know you are watching over me like you used to while you were on this earth.

I will always remember you as my handsome, funny, gentle and sarcastic Dad. I’m glad God chose you to be my father and I know you are proud of me. I carry a part of you with me always, because everytime I look in a mirror, I see you. Now, I’m grateful that God gave me your exact face. Oh! I’ve started wearing all your cool shirts, joggers and sneakers  (I know he’s smirking in heaven)

“Cabrini, Yinkus, Yinkulu, Sengbe” These are the numerous nicknames of yours I just learnt of these past few weeks. Everyone misses you Dad! You were loved by many: Your Siblings, Cousins, Relatives and Friends, They love and miss you so much.

Today is your first post-humous birthday and I’m celebrating it on your behalf Papi. I’m going to celebrate your life and memories till we meet again to part no more.

I can't even fathom the right words to say. I will only remember our moments together..... The nice ones, most especially. I remember wanting to be a great footballer like you. You skills and touches were like Maradona's own.... Plus the boastings too.

I remember my 10th bday where you had to go pick all my cousins and myself from Ibadan for the party in Lagos. Unforgettable road trip.... So many memories.....

And then, your final phone call to me a few days before you passed. I wish we had spoken more.......but God knows best.

Rest in peace dear Uncle Yinka Sonny (very cool middle name) Adesoye.
