BIOGRAPHY OF ADUNNI ONAFUNKE ONAFEKO
Matriarch Adunni Onafunke Onafeko was born on the 16th of January 1930 to the family of late Jinadu and late Abosede Balogun in Gbelegunwa Iyanro in Ijebu-Ode Local Government of Ogun State, Nigeria. Her father was a highly respected Police Officer and he retired as an Inspector while her mother was a business woman who traded in Kolanut and Aso Oke.
She attended Saint Augustine Anglican Primary School, Ijebu-Ode for her primary education and she graduated with merits before joining her mother in trading business. She was the elder of the two children of her parents.
She started business as a Fashion Designer and later became a building Contractor and a Supplier of building materials to many Government projects and individuals. She was a Supplier of bulk food items such as rice and beans; and also traded in alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
"Mama Ile-Olokuta" or "Mama No Regret", as she was fondly called, loved family and keeping people around her. She loved cooking and always volunteered to host families and friends. She derived so much joy in preparing food for her guests and anyone that visited her. She was renowned for her hospitality and passion for children. Her virtue of generosity made her to run a youth hostel for secondary school students in Ibadan for many years.
She was very fashionable and loved wearing hats. Mama was a disciplinarian who instilled the fear of God in her children, grandchildren and all that came across her. She was a loving and caring mother as evidenced by her care and willingness to help others. Her display of empathy by being sensitive to the feelings, interest and well-being of others would be remembered. She impacted her community and positively influenced her world. She was indeed a true mother.
Mama was an ardent Christian with Godly zeal. In her ever willing quest to know more about God, she attended the Overcomers International Bible Institute at Jesus Christ Is For All Evangelical Ministry, Ijebu-Ode at old age of 83 where she obtained a Diploma in Theology in 2013. She was an anointed Minister of God, the Patron of Rhoda Youth Fellowship and a member of Sarah's Fellowship at the Church. During her stay in the United Kingdom, she was a member of the Elders Forum of The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Winners Sanctuary in London. Until her call to glory, her house was a Christian House-fellowship Centre. She will forever be remembered as a woman of strong faith and prayer.
She was married to late Pa Oriola Onafeko and blessed with lovely children, grandchildren and great grandchildren staying home and abroad.
