Andrew grew up in rural Wisconsin. After graduating from McFarland High School in 1985, he attended the University of Minnesota graduating with a BA in East Asian Studies, including a semester at Nankai University in China perfecting his understanding of the Chinese language and culture. Shortly after, he met and fell in love with Michelle Zagars from Isanti, Minnesota.
He will always be loved and remembered by his three children, Ben, Emma, and Brenna Smalley, two brothers, Daniel Smalley (Stacie) and Anthony Smalley, two sisters, Lisa Philippi (Steve) and Sara Rainey (James), two step-brothers, Bryce Lord (Jon Stewart) and Andrew Lord, his step-mother Joan Smalley, and scores of nieces, nephews and cousins throughout the United States and abroad. Andrew was preceded in death by his parents, and nephew, Joshua.
Andrew will be remembered as a brilliant, witty, and charming man who loved his family and friends dearly. He had a contagious personality that people were drawn to instantly. He was always the consummate host. His love for the outdoors would inevitably always take him to the mountains where his passion of skiing, snowboarding, hiking and camping would surround him with those he loved most.

Most recently, Andrew shared his life with Ashley Oxford, of Milwaukee. They enjoyed flying kites, movies, and working on the house.

A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, October 20, 2017, from 1:00pm-4:00pm at 6185 Overlook Ct., Greendale, WI. In lieu of flowers, please hug someone you love.

The Smalley family would like to sincerely extend our gratitude to the St. Francis Hospital staff who took care of him in his time of need.
