“The Comeback Kid” finally used up the last of his 9 lives when he passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 26. Predeceased by his wife of 47 years, Carol. Loving father of Fred, Tim, Jodi & Michael. Proud Grandfather of Leah, Kevin, Jenna, Krista, Dylan, Samantha, Jeffery, Mikaela, Holly, Madison & Peyton. Survived by brothers Keith and David, and sisters Ruth Anne & Kathy.

Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Alan moved his family to Toronto in 1973, at the age of 36, and lived the rest of his life here. Alan had a long career in the Graphic Arts industry, followed by a long career of surprising medical professionals with his “energizer bunny” resilience. We’ll miss his gentleness and sense of humour.

A memorial service will be held in Toronto on Thursday Nov 7 at 4:00pm at York Cemetery. 160 Beecroft Rd., (Sheppard and Yonge area). Reception to follow at the same venue. This memorial website was created in the memory of our loved one, Alan Illies, 76, born on October 8, 1937 and passed away on October 26, 2013. We will remember him forever.

Dad it's been a year and I still haven't found the right words to describe what you meant to me. If there's a way, then you know how much you are still loved and missed. I am proud to have called you Dad. Happy birthday big guy, I love you.

Alan, you brought so much joy and happiness to the Bridle Manor Co-Op over the years. You pitched on so many committees over the years with your pointed questions and always followed up with a great sense of humor. You will be solely missed by a very grateful neighborhood. RIP Buddy !

My favorite memory is when you took my sister, Heidi, and I to the park and Heidi fell off the swing and you looked at her and said - Heidi, that's no way to get off the swing. It was so funny - I loved your sense of humor. You will be greatly missed and you were loved by so many. RIP Alan.

It's been an honor to be part of your family for so many years. I cherish many memories--many while playing cards and mille borne. Loved being your partner even tho Jim and Carol took us to the cleaners many times. You're one of a kind--the best kind!

Madison loved her papa and they had a very special relationship.  Madison asked me the other day if she would she papa again and that she didnt want him to go to heaven.  This was followed by a lot of tears by both of us I told her that he would always watch over her and that she would be in his heart forever.  If Madison was able to write a tribute in her own words I know she would say she misses you everyday and loves you very much.

Love you papa from Madison

One of my favorites was when uncle alan was sleeping and a few of his kids (think it was just u guys) decided to write a few silly things on his face. I don,t remember if it was marker or pen, all I remember is that he took it so well. He was slow to anger...you could tell he always wanted us kids to have fun.
