BABA FASINA’S DIALOGUE WINGS FLY ON
Cornelius Afebu Omonokhua
A true African father is not forgotten even after death
He counts as gain to hand on to the young children
A banner without stain and with enduring character
He prays to God of all creation this noble request
To help all build a world where no one is oppressed
The world is now aglow with the need for dialogue
Bishop Albert Ayide Fasina, Emeritus of Ijebu-Ode
In 1989, you started to fly with the wings of dialogue
When you were appointed AECAWA dialogue Chairman
Association of Episcopal Conferences of Anglophone West Africa
Will forever remember you for the zeal you give to Dialogue
Rest on, Pioneer Chairman of Inter-religious dialogue of CBCN
You reached out to experts like Late Fr. Joseph Kenny, Op
To facilitate the work of Dialogue in West Africa and Nigeria.
You encouraged the Nigerian Bishops to appoint Directors
To facilitate Inter-religious Dialogue in every Arch/Diocese
And to ensure that this message reaches every part of Nigeria
So, the Church in Nigeria responded to Inter-Religious dialogue
I hereby testify, because I am a witness to this noble effort in 1991
When you appealed to Archbishop Patrick Ekpu to appoint me
The Benin Provincial Co-ordinator and Diocesan Director of dialogue
You gave me wings to fly dialogue from diocesan to pontifical level
A call to dialogue in the context of the mandate of the Universal Church
That has kept me going for thirty years now in Inter-religious Dialogue
Rest in Peace, a Muslim turned a saintly Christian, Priest and Bishop.
You taught us how to be humble, simple, human and good to people
Irrespective of tribe, religion, and colour by your devout witness of life
Gentle Soldier of Jesus Christ and Mary, you fought a good valiant fight
A unique Pastor in a gentle, humble and selfless pastoral commitment.
You are a proud Alumnus of CIWA where you studied Pastoral Theology
Like Ron Kelly, continue to fly into the bliss of dialogue by divine grace
Just like you empowered the weak wings to fly beyond the dark clouds
Baba Fasina, when you passed on the skill of dialogue to the young priests
You were actually writing your humble name in the golden hearts of history
When Bishop Francis Adesina announced your transition to eternal life
The earth echoed, make him a Saint immediately akin to Saint John Paul II.
