THE ODYSSEY OF MAZI ALEXANDER ONYEGBO UZOATU (NNADI BATA ULO 1 OF UMUCHU )

The sage and Titgan of our time, Mazi Alexander Onyegbo Uzoatu was per oral tradition born in the year ,1915.This was the period when the first world war raged. He was the 4th child of his parents. He had inkling to academics but his hard adolescent years never gave him the opportunity to acquire formal education. Mazi Uzoatu , however, improved himself by self-help. He could read the holy bible in both the igbo and english languages. He had the corpus Mentis of a professor if only he had the glorious opportunity to acquire western education. Thus, he was left with no other choice than to excel in the business world.He left his home town, Umuchu, quite early in life in search of the Midas touch. This he did at the era when men were separated from the boys and foot embarked upon most of these business journeys. He in 1934 first sojourned at Uzuakoli in the present day Abia State as a sawyer. He made a successs out of this vocation that he was able to save enough money to re-launch himself in business and in a bigger town, Aba.

Mazi Alexander Uzoatu was neither born into the bishopric nor was he the church personified. His greatest religious piety was that he never compromised with the truth. He called a spade a spade and not a farming implement. He never harboured foes except those who came under his corrective sharp tongue for their bad deeds. He was humane, and his greatest shortcoming being that he over indulged and invested in people, some of whom would later betray him and some of whom would take credit for things he toiled for. There is no gainsaying the fact that he was the son of a heathen parents. As somebody who wanted to better his sprituality, Mazi Uzoatu, out of his own volition decided in 1937
