ForeverMissed

On Wednesday, April 7, 2021, Alexander Sergei Bucewicz, dear father to Alexandra and Amir, passed away at the age of 67.

Alexander was born in Siberia, Russia on September 11, 1953 to Sergei and Irene Bucewicz.  By age 5, both his mother and father had died, leaving him and his little sister orphans.

Following this, Alexander went to live with his grandmother, who raised him with a firm, but loving, hand and instilled in him a desire for higher education. Soon, his fascination for building led him to seek a degree in engineering.

In 1971, Alexander ventured to the United States to pursue his career.  He worked in Boston, Massachusetts for several years before meeting and marrying Aleidys Silano and moving to Cleveland, Ohio.  In 1982, they had a daughter Alexandra; and in 1987, a son Amir.

Alexander reveled in quiet mornings with coffee and newspaper, strolls through parks, long meals with family and friends, and vigorous debates over world affairs. He was a loyal and generous friend, a lover of animals and nature, a Clint Eastwood film enthusiast, and a connoisseur of Eastern European cuisine.

He will be missed by his children and close friends Stacy, Richie, Larry, and many others.

“So meanwhile, friends, enjoy your blessing:
This fragile life that hurries so!
Its worthlessness needs no professing,
And I'm not loathe to let it go;
I've closed my eyes to phantoms gleaming,
Yet distant hopes within me dreaming
Still stir my heart at times to flight:
I'd grieve to quit this world's dim light
And leave no trace, however slender.
I live, I write - not seeking fame;
And yet, I think, I'd wish to claim
For my sad lot its share of splendour—
At least one note to linger long,
Recalling, like some friend, my song.”

~ Alexander Pushkin, Russian poet and my father's namesake~

Alex was a very kind and generous person and would do anything he could for you. He loved treating us to Slyman's corn beef sandwiches. He loved his children and would do anything within his means to help them in any way he could. We look forward to seeing him soon in the coming resurrection. We love you, Alex. Love, Rose and Frank

Alex, Amir, and family my deepest sympathy in the passing of your dear father. May your faith and love for each other give you solace during this time. I met Mr. Bucewicz several times and he was always so nice and gentlemanly. My fondest memory of him is when he and Alex met me at the beach near my home and we had an ice cream. It was a beautiful day and a wonderful time was had by all!

Just looked at pictures and read the stories and I was struck by the sadness of his baby picture... His parents yet did not know his life would change with their passing, yet he not only survived, he grew to be curious, courageous and loving. As seen by his life course and his desire to build a family and care for them the best he could. There is truly no place better to be than in the memory of our Creator who saw each one of your father's steps, each one of his hopes and knows the cause of each one of his tears. How profoundly wonderous is the promise that all of us will be given a fair chance to live again and be nothing less than the best version of ourselves.

Alexandra & Amir,
May Jehovah our loving God give your hearts peace and comfort, as you await the day Jesus calls him from the memorial tomb, to feel your families warm embrace!

I will always remember Alexander as a very nice gentleman. I had the pleasure to host him at my home in Margarita Island, Venezuela. He was a sweet person. He came to see Alexandria and my sister Aleida, who were there on vacation on my sunny tropical island. We spent time together, he liked to go to restaurants and fell in love with Venezuelan cuisine and drinks. It was my pleasure to have them stay with me, May he rest in peace in Jehovah's memory.

I remember uncle Alex was very nice and he loved the natural beauty of Venezuela and especially the beach at Margarita Island. I remember he was very curious about all the animals, plants, and event the insects. He loved to explore outside. I was like 8 year's old at the time. He liked to play tennis and it was so fun to spend time with him.

I did not know Alexander personally, but I have the privilege of knowing Alex. She made him real to me by the comments she made about her dad. She loved him and enjoyed the time she was able to spend with him. Alex and I also share something similar. We both lost our dads within a week of each other. We have many shared feelings.

After Alex married my aunt Aleidys, I met him a few times when he went down to Margarita Island in Venezuela in the 80's. He was a nice person. We hung out a couple of time for some beers and had some pizza. I have good memories of him.

To Alexandra, To Amir, and all family and friends
Please allow me to send my deepest sympathy in the loss of Mr. Bucewicz.
He was much too young.
“They know each one his own plague and his own pain . . . You [Jehovah] must forgive and give to each one according to all his ways.”
2 Chron. 6:29, 30.
None of us can know what the 5 year old child felt at the loss of his parents, living in a world that had gone mad.
Somehow he grew strong and carried on.
We can hope that he went on to have many beautiful memories with his own family and his true friends.
You, Alexandrea and Amir, are the result of his hard work. I am sure that he was very proud of you both.
You owe it to him to be strong and carry on.

I only met Alexander in a very passive manner when his daughter brought him to the Target we both worked at. Alexandra introduced me as her co-worker Glenn. He was always very friendly and beamed a great smile

Thinking about you

July 22, 2021
Today I came across this quote from Alexander Pushkin, your favorite poet:

“As long as there is one heart on Earth where I still live, my memory will not die”

How true those words are for you, dad. We think about you every day. I put on my glasses and think how I inherited your poor eyesight and how, so many times in my younger days, you’d chastise me for not wearing them at times when I should: “Put on your glasses!” you would say. Good advice.

I was thinking about the times you would talk about your mom and how sad you looked. I couldn’t truly relate, but I imagined losing her at a tender age in such a sudden way was traumatizing. You’ll see her again. I can’t wait to meet her and see how much of her I may have inherited.

I remember how much you loved rollercoasters. And that huuuuuge slide at Geauga Lake. You always liked to test my inner athlete and dare me to do things like go down that slide, or throw me in deep water and watch me swim back. I remember our swim races. You were an amazing swimmer. I’m not too shabby myself.

I loved the fact that the simplest things, like reading the paper with coffee, eating a good meal, and trying new things thrilled you. After you had the stroke, I wanted you to continue that trend as much as possible.

Currently, we are watching our “Powerful By Faith” assembly and there is a part on Friday called “Have Faith and Do Not Doubt” based on Matthew 21: 21, 22. It has really helped me because my faith has really gotten me through these few months…I know I’ll see you again, dad. I love you and I can’t wait to play a game of soccer, feed some birds, and ride a horse with you.

Life is fragile on this earth now. But we are given such a beautiful Hope that the earth will become a paradise and imperfections will be gone. I’m grateful every single day that I have that Hope. I can’t wait for it. See you then, Tata! Love you ternally.

Thank you, Alex, Alex, Alex. Alex was Action and attraction, Laughable and lovable, Exciting and extraordinary, and eXotic. He was That Guy. He loved and liked people. It didn't matter to him. He loved his two beautiful children Amir and Alexandra. He would give the world to them.

He was a smart man. He loved his football and other sports. He loved to cook - steaks and chicken thighs. I met Alex around 2011 or something like that. I would see him walking down the street. He would walk fast, just like Amir. I met him through one of his downstairs neighbors, Curtis Jr.

It's been a roller coaster and a joy ride. He tickled the heck out of me. He also helped me move. Just me and him in 2015. He got along with everyone, and everyone knew Alex.
"Here comes Alex" he would say. "My name is Alex - Remember me. Alex."

We used to go out all the time. You just couldn't sit him down. He was the best. I used to drive him around all the time. He couldn't drive me around, though. Oh no. Hahaha. When he got in behind the car, it was like watch out! Oh no, I had to drive us.

He loved to go to the park! Loved animals. You name it, he loved it. I loved him. I'm going to miss him. Ugh, it's so hard.

When our daughter Alexandra was 6 months old, I took her with me to visit Venezuela to meet my family. Alex had to stay in Cleveland for work. After some time, on a spring day, my sister Nora, who lived in Maracay, heard a knock on the door. She opened it to find a light-haired, blue-eyed man asking for "Salmini and my little daughter." (I used the name Salmini then because I really loved it, even though my birth name is Aleidys).

My sister did not know what to do and called out to her husband Edgar, who was able to figure out that this young man was my husband who came to see us and visit my family too. Nora thought he was very pleasant.

Nora called me immediately. I was in Margarita Island at the time with my other sister Madys and her husband Ramiro. Alex stayed in Maracay for a few days, spending time exploring with my sister and her husband.

He finally arrived in Margarita Island and was so happy to see us, especially our daughter. He kissed her over and over. My sister instantly liked Alex. He was kind, fun, and affectionate. He loved the beaches, the food, the people. He really liked the weather. He became very close to my mother, Felicidad. She adored him.

We went to visit the rest of my family. I saw something very touching from Alex. I watched him take $20 from his wallet and hand it to my little nephew and told him to him "save it." That always stayed with me.

My whole family loved Alex. He was a very likable, generous person. He also really tried his best to speak Spanish.

I have many good memories of Alex. When I first met him, he was dresses immaculate. So European. He was handsome. He loved outdoor sports. He was a great swimmer, great at ping pong, loved chess. He loved animals. He loved his kids. He had a hard childhood and yet he made a good life with wonderful children who loved him. He was funny and I love the way he opened a bottle of wine.
