Alfastine (McCoy) Barnes, 76, passed away Monday, August 21, 2023. She was born in Dayton, Ohio to the late Lonnie and Ernestine McCoy, and was a 1966 graduate of Dunbar High School.

Alfastine worked as a nurse assistant at Maria Joseph Living Care Center for twenty years, and went on to work at Hospice of Dayton before retiring. She was a loving and compassionate mother, grandmother, sister and friend, and a woman who truly cherished the memories the city of Dayton held for her.

Alfastine had a strong work ethic, and was a profoundly sentimental woman who had a deep sense of loyalty to those dearest to her. Observant and introspective, she held with great affection the memories and experiences that enriched her life. She trusted Christ as her Lord and Savior many years ago, and her faith was a source of comfort and strength to her.

She is preceded in death by parents, Lonnie McCoy and Ernestine Scott; brother, Lawrence McCoy and sister, Annie J ean Douglas.

She leaves to cherish her memory son, Kevin R. Barnes of Dayton, Ohio; daughter, Michele (Jahmal) McClendon of Akron, Ohio; granddaughter, Rion Gaston-Barnes of Atlanta, Georgia; grandsons, Simon and Ellison McClendon of Akron, Ohio; brother, Fred (Esther) McCoy of Dayton, Ohio; sister, Lonzine Loveless of Dayton, Ohio, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Professional services entrusted to W.E. Lusain Funeral Home and Crematory.

Saddened to learn of another classmate from the Dunbar High School class of 1966 had passed. Alfastine was a person who always wore a smile and was just as happy as she wanted to be! She walked with grace and projected an attitude of warmth, affection and care for everyone.
May the Lord be with the family as they go through the grieving process.

Remembering Little ‘Stine ‘66

October 4, 2023
Belated condolences to Alfastine’s family and friends. When I heard of her passing, only happy memories and sweet times in the DHS Class of ‘66 came to my mind. She was a member of the greatest class that ever graduated from the historical Dayton Dunbar..because we loved each other then and those of us who remain, love each other now. ’Stine was small in stature but a giant in beauty and grace. Friendly and fun as a young lady, always well dressed and ready for a laugh. I pray that she retained those loving qualities as she lived her life. May her soul rest in perfect peace in the presence of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
