I met Sir Butch when I was at the promotions department of Star Cinema and he was with ABS-CBN Corporate PR. A few years after I left Star Cinema, I don't know how it happened - if I contacted him or if he contacted me, I joined the PR firm where he was connected with and he hired me as a writer. Our stint at that firm was short but in those few months, he opened my eyes to the ins and outs of PR. I've been in PR ever since, for 22 years now and counting. Because of the demands and challenges of this type of work - I am really a writer and a shy person - I didn't think I would last this long in PR but I am still here. The last time I saw Sir Butch in person was at the press conference of Globe Studios' "Hintayan ng Langit" starring Eddie Garcia and Gina Pareño. It was a pleasant surprise to see him. I was there because I invited the press and was going to host the Q & A; he was there because Globe was his client. Sir Butch even asked for my target media list and wanted to compare notes. He is a very elegant PR man - friendly, considerate, sincere, suave (as Sir Nestor Cuartero described Sir Butch), personable. That Sir Butch gained so many media friends attests to his fine character. I know PR can sometimes have a bad rep, but Sir Butch proved that it can be meaningful and even honorable. I am grateful to have learned from Sir Butch and proud to be part of and carry on the PR profession. Thank you very much for paving the way, Sir Butch!

Eyy, Butch it is not easy to describe my feeling of loss and deep sadness as bouts of it has been coming more often from dear friends/loved ones. Your addition is hard to accept, because it should not happen, this I strongly believe. I began my corporate work journey under you, but being a boss is very underrated, because i've seen many bloomed with your compass - projects and people, surprisingly outliving you beyond roi's and empowerment. I've seen also fragility in your strength, but it is just being human able to give and that person and the memories, I will cherish... Go and be in God's loving arms.

Butch was a natural friend to everyone so it was not hard to be drawn to him. I initially found it difficult to reach out to him when he was news director of two leading TV news stations. But when he shifted from news to corporate PR work, we got better acquainted and that’s when I discovered what a fun, pleasant and down to earth person he truly was. It was his irreverent sense of humor and deadpan comments that always made our conversations a riot because even if we started talking seriously, we would eventually end up laughing as he always found something to make me laugh. During the Middle of the pandemic last year I called him to just to ask how he was and our talk lasted over an hour because he never ran out of amusing and interesting Stories. I Will miss Butch and his undying passion for Ateneo, his daily inspirational messages on Viber , and our happy times together whenever we Co hosted lunches not only for Our IPRA pr group but also when we regularly gathered this group of crazy ex- media friends and colleagues whom we brought to different eating places . He and I were partners in creating unforgettably good times for all of us. That was Butch. Alwayd a fun and memorably dear friend. Make your new life up there full of laughter as well. ❤️❤️

He was the consummate public relations professional and was a revered figure both in the Public Relations Society of the Philippines and the International Public Relations Association Philippine Chapter. We will miss his daily dose of divine inspiration. We will always be grateful for his friendship and mentorship and his ability to bridge us to other people. May the Lord and Mama Mary receive him warmly in heaven.

Butch, Rest Well in the Bosom of the Lord

April 21, 2021
Just received the terrible news that this world lost another kind soul to Covid. And from sadness, I found joy with this passage:
“ For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who beholds the Son and believes in Him will have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. “ John 6:40
My dear friend Butch Raquel was our quiet prayer warrior. This was just one of his endearing qualities.
Without fail, he posted daily in our viber group, early in the morning, the day’s gospel, prayers and reflections. And like a bad habit, I open my phone first thing in the morning to read his post. It is my spiritual nourishment to begin my day. That I started to actually miss when he got sick last week.
I joined his legion of friends in storming Heaven for his full recovery. We asked our prayer brigades to humbly ask the Lord to spare him.
This passage, just shared by Fr Tito Caluag, just made me realize that yes, the Lord has granted us our petition. He has been completely healed by our Lord I know now that our God has shown Butch His guiding light. And that the angels came to lead him  to meet our Father in paradise, just about two hours ago
