I met Sir Butch when I was at the promotions department of Star Cinema and he was with ABS-CBN Corporate PR. A few years after I left Star Cinema, I don't know how it happened - if I contacted him or if he contacted me, I joined the PR firm where he was connected with and he hired me as a writer. Our stint at that firm was short but in those few months, he opened my eyes to the ins and outs of PR. I've been in PR ever since, for 22 years now and counting. Because of the demands and challenges of this type of work - I am really a writer and a shy person - I didn't think I would last this long in PR but I am still here. The last time I saw Sir Butch in person was at the press conference of Globe Studios' "Hintayan ng Langit" starring Eddie Garcia and Gina Pareño. It was a pleasant surprise to see him. I was there because I invited the press and was going to host the Q & A; he was there because Globe was his client. Sir Butch even asked for my target media list and wanted to compare notes. He is a very elegant PR man - friendly, considerate, sincere, suave (as Sir Nestor Cuartero described Sir Butch), personable. That Sir Butch gained so many media friends attests to his fine character. I know PR can sometimes have a bad rep, but Sir Butch proved that it can be meaningful and even honorable. I am grateful to have learned from Sir Butch and proud to be part of and carry on the PR profession. Thank you very much for paving the way, Sir Butch!
