SFC Retired Alfred J. Roberts of Columbus, passed away Thursday, August 28, 2014 at Midtown Medical Center. He was 82 years old and resided at 6301 Mill Branch Road.

A native of Odessa, FL and the son of the late Bobby and Jessie Beard Roberts, Alfred was born August 25, 1932. 

A resident of Columbus since 1964, He was a US Army veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts. Amongst the many medals and awards he received was the Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged and retired from the US Army after 20 plus years of meritorious service. After his military career, Alfred worked for Civil Services at Ft. Benning , GA as a Crane Operator/Truck Driver, retiring after many years of employment. A devout Christian, he was a faithful member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church, serving as a Sunday School teacher and Choir member. He was a Prince Hall Mason, member of American Legion Post 216 of Tarpon Springs, FL and the Follow Me Chapter of 1st Cavalry Division Association.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Frances Johnson Roberts and a sister, Lillie Bell Owens.

Survivors includes a brother, Charles Roberts; sisters-in-law, Katie Tillman and Bernadine Tucker; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
