God transitioned Al from his earthly vessel to his spiritual one to be with Him, on the evening of Monday, January 6, 2020 at the Veterans Administrative Hospital’s Inpatient Hospice Unit, Victory Ridge.
Alfred “Al” Thomas Sanders passed away unexpectantly from his battle with cancer on Monday night. Al was born on Saturday, July 12, 1963 to the late Erma Jean (Hoard) and James Sanders, Jr. at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. He was the youngest of 6 boys and 2 girls. A graduate of Paul Laurence Dunbar High School, Class of 1981, he was an excellent wrestler and was on the team for 4 years.
He was a Veteran and served his country proudly in the United States Army from Wednesday, June 8, 1988 until Sunday, July 7, 1991. He was supposed to go to Operation Desert Storm but instead was stationed at Fort Wainwright in Fairbanks, Alaska as a communications specialist.
He was a member of Shabach! Ministries Church, Inc in Dayton, Ohio under the watchful eye of the late Dr. Betty J. Boykin and a former member of Prayer Chapel in New Castle, Pennsylvania and served under the late Pastor Mattie Rose Scott. He was a twice ordained Deacon, from both Shabach! and Prayer Chapel. While serving as Deacon at Shabach! he would also help his friend Kevin around the church doing odd jobs or anything that needed to be done. He was a faithful servant.
He was employed at AVI (Auto Valve Inc.) and was a loyal and a hard working employee until he was unable to work any longer.
Al loved fishing, watching Nat Geo, Animal Planet and playing his bass guitar. He played in a band in his younger days and played in a band recently with friends called “Versatile” where he was their lead bass guitar player. He and his wife were members the “Kings & Queens of Dominoes” and they played with the other members nearly every weekend, except when they went fishing, his first passion. He studied Karate as a child and would periodically practice with his nunchucks at home. But his greatest passion was studying the Word with his wife. His favorite Scripture was James Chapter 1, Verse 2-4. He loved teaching what he learned from reading and would even preach and teach to his co-workers.
He also worked at Dayton Mental Health were he worked as a driver. This where he met the love of his life, Willette, who worked in the kitchen. They were together for over 10 years and on Saturday, September 28, 2013, they were united in Holy Matrimony by Dr. Betty J. Boykin, That’s when they became one. They were happily married for 6 years until the time of his death and she was faithfully by his side until he took his last breath.
Al was a great and wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He was always the life of the party and would always keep you laughing. He was a fun loving person and he loved to have fun with friends and family. He will be missed by a multitude of people.
Al is preceded in death by his parents, James and Erma Jean (Hoard) Sanders, In-laws, Leroy J. and Hazel (Graves), Hutson, brothers, Walter and James Sanders, sister, Rita Harris, sisters-in-law, Yvonne Hutson McNair Reed and Vallarie Thompson and brothers-in-law, Gary Gullette and Michael Dix, Sr.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife of 6 years, Willette Hutson-Sanders, sons, Alfred II and Tory Sanders, granddaughter, Maliyah Skye, brothers Bernard, Eric (Ann) and Lavern Sanders, sister, Wanda (Jonathan) McKinney, sisters-in-law, Sherry Gullette, Brenda Hutson-White, Lenda Hutson and Tonya Arrone Brown all of Dayton and RuthAlice Parker-Herbert of Cincinnati, brother-in-law, Michael “Mickey” Reed, aunts Jessie Mae McCoy of Las Vegas, NV and Margaret Brown of New Castle Pa, 8 nieces, 7 nephews, a host of other relatives, cousins, family and friends. He lost his battle to cancer but he won his Victory in Glory!
