Her Life
June 26, 2012

It began on an island, east of New York
A baby named Alice was brought by the stork
She made her mom smile
Dad thought she had style
But big brother Tony wasn't sure she would work

Fast friends they became as they grew through the years
With cousins galore they would play with their peers
She proved to be smart
Which they knew from the start
So she went off to college amidst protests and tears

At SUNY Burlington she started her quest
But then transferred to Fordham to finish the rest
She studied in France
And knew in a glance
That her life must bring travel to fill her with zest

So she packed up her bags when she got Boston's call
With Lucile, Mary & Susan she had quite a ball
They moved to Georgetown
The boys came around
And then suddenly one day, in love she did fall

While working at Peace Corps down in the city
She spotted young David, and boy was he witty
With a walrus mustache
And a cute little laugh
She thought he was charming and he made her feel pretty

The wedding bells rang one rainy fall day
Then off to St. Maarten they flew for a stay
They were happy with life
David loved his young wife
So when work came from Korea they went on their way

They lived the good life in the new town of Seoul
Then baby Christine brought a new challenge and role
Now a mom she must be
It was scary indeed
But having two beautiful girls was her goal

It was back in the states when they had daughter two
They named her Celeste to round out the crew
They grew healthy and strong
But it was not long
Till they moved once again, and yet this time they knew

It was Olney, Maryland where they chose to stay
The girls started school, and they knew right away
That this was the town
Where they'd settle down
They loved their new neighbors and the Chesapeake Bay

The girls they did grow, as Alice showed them the way
She guided and taught them to love life and play
They left home for schools
She had provided the tools
And she realized that teaching is what called her name

So as years went by, new kids filled the chairs
Alice taught them to read in this new language of theirs
And with summers off
She could travel and golf
And so to Bethany Beach she and Dave bought their lairs

She happily watched her girls walk down the isle
Each married an Evan, with his own unique style
Four grandkids she loved
Lots of kisses and hugs
For Scarlett, Graham, Jack and Jules sure made her heart smile

As we mourn her loss, we are comforted still
By the legacy left, and the hearts she did fill
She was a great friend,
Mom and wife till the end
So we'll cherish fond memories and always will
