Her Life

Alicia

April 1, 2013

Alicia was born in Ceiba, but raised in Luquillo, Puerto Rico.  As many of her era, upon graduating from High School (secretarial) she moved to New York City seeking a better life.  While in NYC, she met and married John I. Lopez, also from Puerto Rico.  They had three children, Dennis, Steven, and Belinda.

In 1967, John and Alicia moved back to Puerto Rico to raise their children and be close to family. When the children grew and made their way, John and Alice moved to the mainland to be closer to the kids, settling in Boca Raton in 1982.

Since her arrival in Boca Raton, Alicia served as the secretary to the Dean of the Social Science Department at Florida Atlantic University (FAU).  After her retirement from FAU, John and Alice returned to the Island to care for their ailing parents (she her mother, and he his father).

After their parent’s passing, Alicia became ill and returned to Boca Raton in 2005 where she was diagnosed with cancer.  For eight years, she fought several instances of cancer, but lost the battle on March 25, 2013.

Alicia loved to travel, knit, crochet, and ride her tricycle, but most of all she loved being with family.  She believed in God's will, and was an example for all of us to follow.

She is survived by her husband John, her children Dennis, Steven, and Belinda, her sister Juanita, her brother Willie, grandchildren, and a great-grandchild.

She will be forever missed!
