My mother was born on January 30, 1947 lived on the Playa Ponce, Pr. She was the daughter of the Late Manuel Hernandez and Felicita Ocasio who today is 98 yrs young. She had 4 sisters: Miriam Montalvo, Adelaida Lugo, Maria Hernandez and the late Concepcion Conchy Luna who joined my mother last year January 2018.  She also had  2 siblings who passed away when they were young at age: The late Victor Hernandez and Gladys Hernandez. 

After her father’s passing in 1968, her family decided to relocate to Bronx,NY, and there she met the man she thought would be the man of her life, Jorge Garib. They both married on June 27, 1970 at St. Joseph’s Cathedral in Bronx, NY. 

They quickly prepared for the arrival of their first daughter: Damaris Garib then a year later I was born. In 1975 my parents decided to move to Massachusetts and then a year later in 1976 Sandra Garib would be born. 

After the separation of my parents in 1982 my mother would raise us modestly. 

In 1984, my mother was diagnosed with Schizophrenia and severe depression. In 1988 her first Grandson Ruben was born. Unfortunately, due to her illness, she wasn’t able to bond or nurture him like a grandmother would. In 1991, her first granddaughter, Crystal was born followed by Sandra’s daughter Netishia. Later in 1993 she again became a grandmother to Joel and then to Reyman Jr. In 1996 Christopher was born. And 2 yrs later Brittany would be born. Then 1999 Uriaha would be born, but she would never meet her and 2 other grandchildren Destiny born 2003 and DiArmoni 2006. Later in that same year 2006 Armoni would be born. 

On June 2005 her first great grandson Elijah was borned, followed by Trevon who would be born on August 2006, and thenher first great granddaughter Kionah was born on September of 2008. Years later Noah was born on March of 2015, but would never meet any of them due to her passing. 

In April 2005, my mother was diagnosed with Advanced Stage 4 Endometrial Carcinoma (Uterine Cancer) Cancer progressed very quickly, although she seeked medical assistance, Cancerwas so advanced that she didn’t qualify for radiation and or chemo.

On Sunday, August 7, 2005 at 7:13am God called her home. She was viewed at Farrah Funeral Home and is now resting at St.Mary’s Cementary in Lawrence, Ma.
