Adebayo Lamidi Arowosaye Yusuf, was born in Ode-Ekiti on the 3rd of October 1940 to Muslim parents, even though his Mum, Seliatu, had been a Christian before marriage. Bayo's Father, Baba Yusuf, born in Oka-Akoko, had come to Ode-Ekiti to do farm-work. There, providence smiled on him, and in the course of time he was conferred with the Chieftaincy title of Baale Alejo of Ode-Ekiti.

Samuel Kingsley, as Bayo was later christened, was raised in a large polygamous household where the father was a man of means far above average. He therefore enjoyed a lavish lifestyle, attention, and love, since he was the only child of his mother. In school, Bayo was popular among his peers who were quite proud to be friends with him. It was at this period that the nickname Expensive KAY was coined from his initials (Kingsley Adebayo Yusuf). He was a very hard-working and serious-minded student.

He attended St. Mary’s Anglican Primary School from 1948-1955. He attended Oyemekun Grammar School between 1958-1963 where he obtained his WASC, he proceeded to Ibadan Grammar School for his Higher School Certificate between 1965-1966. He obtained his degree in Economics in the University of Ile-Ife, Ile-Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University in 1970. He had Diploma of the British Institute of Purchasing and Supply, and Certificate in Inventory and Management in 1975. He obtained Certificate in Leadership and Organizational Innovation with Certificate in American Educational and Administrative System from the University of Pittsburgh, USA in 1977.

He held leadership positions since the early years of his life both in school and outside of school. Some of which include.

He began his career as a Secondary School teacher. Then as a Procurement and Stores Manager in the University of Ile-Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University for 7 years and later worked as the Controller of stores at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture in Ibadan for 10 years after which he voluntarily retired from service at IITA in 1988. He started his own Private Business, a Company he named; Ladenik Limited.

He later joined Politics, where he was the state leader of ADC, AC, ACN, APC, PDP in Ondo State. He was made an Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the Republic of Togo in 1999-2003. After his return from his Ambassadorial posting, he continued to actively participate in politics, until his retirement.

His Hobbies were Playing of Billiards, Squash, Badminton, Lawn Tennis, and Golf. He loved to travel both locally and internationally. He dresses stylishly at all times to corroborate his expensive KAY appellation.

He was a strong member of the Men’s forum in the Anglican Church of the Messiah. He was also an active member of Full Gospel Businessmen Fellowship International, Executive Chapter Ibadan, which he was the Vice President II until God called him home. He was also a devoted member of OGC Enconsult House’ Monday Morning Prayer Group. In the last decade of his life, his passion for God knew no bounds and he longed to always be in God’s presence and hungered to know more of HIM. In all areas of life, he made his mark positively and indeed he left footprints on the sands of time.

He got married to His lovely wife, Anike, on 31st July 1971, and the marriage is blessed with beautiful Children and Grand Children, through whom his legacy lives on.

He was an understanding and a magnanimous father in his dealing with his children including his in-laws and grandchildren. He was daddy to them all. He will be sorely missed by everyone he ever had contact with. He will be remembered for his love for God and mankind, his cheerfulness, humility, and gentleness. The children especially the grandchildren will indeed miss him. His passing was peaceful and normal
