TRIBUTE TO A QUINTESSENTIAL ICON

I find it a hard task to write this tribute … I have thought long and hard about how to do just that, but mere words could never do justice to the incredible man, Engineer par excellence I came to be fond of and appreciate: yes, very difficult to believe that you are gone; because your exit is just like a dream, that left me devastated coupled with the vacuum you have left behind. But very grateful and glad for those years of friendship, camaraderie and fellowship with joy that we shared together.
I don’t know where to start, what to write, or even how to phrase this tribute, however, reality struck me that “Death is the door to eternity”.
Baba Omo, Baba Agba or Engr. Aah Aah, as you are fondly called, death is not the end of your life but your birthday to eternal life. Earth has only served as a temporary residence; therefore, life is a temporary assignment. Psalm 119:19a (AMP) says “I am a stranger on earth”.
It is difficult to forget the roles you played in peoples’ lives and how can I forget the way you used to call me “OGA MI” whilst holding my hand; a name that has stuck among your peers.
You lived the life of a great man rendering services to God and humanity throughout your lifetime. Not just an epitome of civility but a man of a very high dependable disposition who saw courage as the ability to stand tall in the face of opposition and challenges.
Baba Omo attained and contributed at the highest level of Civil Engineering [not only being one of those who transformed enviable Civil Division into widely acclaimed and respected Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers but creating a viable culture that has continued to nurture many individuals who can hold their heads high in every cranny and sphere of our country be in politics, public, corporate and private institutions nationwide]; and achieved a niche for himself as a Past National Chairman. He earned the respect of people around him; his influence, advice and friendship were sought after by many people within and without. Because he was a FATHER to all, ENGINEER to all and open-minded to all. He has played his part very well and shall be greatly missed.
You were an instrument through which many achieved their various desires. You affected the lives of many by extending your kindness, hospitality, comfort and ever joking with cheerful nature to all who came across you during your earthly odyssey.
Though we realise that life is a temporary assignment but nature will one day stand and say “THIS WAS A MAN”. Therefore, we will NEVER forget YOU.
Our identity is in eternity and our homeland is in heaven. Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them. [Rev. 14:13]. Deacon, you have fought the good fight and gone home with your crown to be with the LORD where there is no more pain.
ENGR Aah Aah, rest in the Lord until we meet to part no more, may HE hold you in the palm of HIS hand….

Dear Baba Omo,
Words are not enough to project all that l have in my heart . Your contributions to my professional career cannot be overemphasised. You were a real pillar of support, you had faith in me, you were one of my cheerleaders, your prayers always during my crisis period made me a rock and helped me to propel forward towards achieving remarkable goals. Even during your trying moments, you were still praying for me and speaking positive words into my life.
I am happy that the Rauf Aregbesola Engineering Resource Centre project domiciled in the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Ikeja branch which we worked and laboured together to achieve is almost completed and l know that it would give you great joy to have seen it fully functional but God knows best.
You were passionate about the things of God and served God in the way you know best.
I didnt know that Tuesday 20th April 2021 would be the last day we would speak and see one another. May your soul rest in peace and May God forgive all your shortcomings and grant you eternal rest in Jesus name. Goodnight to a Major General ....Aaa! Aaa! Baba Agba, you would be greatly missed.

I had come to resume an afternoon shift that wasn't supposed to start till 1pm around 10a.m. There was a buzz at the station then right from the reception and I asked what all the fuss was , and I was told that Tunmise's dad was around and was live on air to discuss something or the other on the institution of engineering in Lagos state. I sneaked into the talk back studio to get a glimpse of the man who had jointly raised tunmise to whom we all know to be strict, no nonsense, opinionated and a loyal friend, I wasn't surprised at my first impressions of him while on air as he came off confident and quite accomplished at his chosen profession. Brief meetings of him over the years solidified my first impressions. I found him to grow mellow has he started having grandchildren and by the testimonials about him, he loved his grandchildren a lot.
Rest in peace great man.

Baba Omo, to everyone who knew him. Our father will be remembered by most people as a generous man, and to this we testify. Though as a father he was a very principled man who wanted the best for his children, he was also the most fun dad when he is.

Baba Agba, thank you for your peculiar kind of love, thank you for being the best father you could, thank you for being the best husband you could, thank you for being the best person to the world you could.

As a grandfather, you had the most fun with your grandchildren, and they will remember your special 'weird' names for them.
