He was a very nice person and a wonderful human being. It was always a pleasure meeting him and talking to him as his talks were full of wit and humour . I was one of his great admirers and gave him all the regards as an elder brother. He was also very fond of me as we both seemed to be belonging to the same school of thought and had so much in common to talk about.
He was very popular in the tea gardens as he was a great achiever in his field of tea plantations, spearheading social gatherings and taking over as master of ceremonies in all big parties ,a life line of all social gatherings.
It is said only a person with a clear conscience can get a peaceful death, Amritji also died peacefully in his sleep.
May God bless him so that his soul rest in peace.
I would have liked to have for his epitaph-
“Oh! What a wonderful person he was. “

With heavy heart I write this tribute for Chachaji

Words cannot describe this difficult moment, but if this is the last time I get to say goodbye then I know I will do so with the knowledge that I consider myself blessed to have lived this life as his nephew.

There are far too many pleasant memories of my association with him right through my childhood days. Space may not be enough to express my emotions and attachment. Suffice it to say that his love for all of us was one that is only comparable to that of a dad.

Whenever we visited him we were always met with a big hug and a warm smile. Such a magnetic personality! He used to always bring so much life into any conversation that we had. His kindness, hospitability and generosity was unparalleled and will be missed for all times to come. He was one of the few real genuine persons I have come across in my life who believed in only giving.

My only regret in this moment of grief is that I could not personally meet him during last few months to avoid any untoward infection. My only consolation is that, I could speak to him on phone during his last few days in which he always sounded so cheerful despite such complications and difficult times. I guess I’ll have to remain satisfied with that.

May the Lord be with him and with his spirit wherever he is? We’ll miss him a lot. He has left a void that will be difficult to fill in this life time.

Chachaji we bid you goodbye

Heard about Jeejaji late last evening. I should have kept in touch, but didn’t- one of life regrets that keeps coming back to haunt me

Am truly saddened - his wit and presence of mind was always refreshing- I still remember his words of caution when I joined a particular industrial house

Quiet as your Dad was, I always found it easier to converse with him as compared to your mom- in her eyes we were the kids you see- but Dad always treated us in equal footing

My first meeting with him was when I saw him when I was 9 or 10. We were travelling in a train when I saw a man banging on the outside door of the moving train, hanging by the railings and asking to be let in.

I was fascinated at the sight and took some time to move. Finally I fetched my father who recognised him and opened the door to let him in

Once he came in, he straightened his shirt, brushed back his hair, walked upto me, shook my hand and said “thank you”

I was in awe of your father , and have remained so since then

Promise to be in touch

My Mom’s and my heartfelt condolences. This isn’t the typical condolence message.

Instead I urge you to take a moment to celebrate your Dad (and Mom’s) life. They had so much joie de vivre. It lit up all the lives they touched. I know my parents and I were very fond of them.

I send you my message of affection over this long distance, hoping distances won’t be a barrier to our connection.

Indeed, through this message I am sending you my contact and taking yours so the connection between our families is never broken.

I love you all and wish you fortitude and good health.

Affectionately
RAJU

Thank you for penning our thoughts so beautifully, Vidhu. It truly is the end of an era, a generation. Will miss Amrit Uncle’s charm and confidence for sure. The last time I spoke to him on his 90th birthday, he simply said “don’t take life too seriously, enjoy it”. Words to live by, truly! He will surely be missed.

26th April has marked the end of an era ... a generation that nurtured us ... a generation we looked upto... a generation we can hardly match up to....
Chachaji ... you were the last thread of that beautiful generation.... and truly a prince of that era ... what royalty you carried on your sleeve and deep inside your heart ... what a magnanimous personality...
You touched the lives of so many
Your positivity and unwavering confidence gave us so much courage ...
Mostly only a few spoken words of yours would resonate and mean so much...
Today, I am sure, there are many like me who feel a deep sense of regret for not being able to bid you a final farewell...
But you are just too special and genuinely etched in our hearts forever...
Chachaji ... we love you and can see you join our other angels in heaven... waving at us from up there ... ❤️❤️
