Mom and Dad

Mom and Dad met at the Roslyn train station in 1950.  Mom would be there picking up her father and they would talk for a bit.

After Mom had a serious neck injury, Dad ask her out for their first date and they were married shortly after, on April 7, 1951.

They were truly the love of each other's lives.  

After they were married, they lived with Mom's parents in Roslyn.

They then moved to North Babylon, Commack and East Setauket.

Dad was very active in the Boy Scouts of America.

In 1984, Mom and Dad retired to Tavares, Florida where they became the first residents of Fox Run, an over-55 community.

While in Florida, Mom and Dad celebrate there 50th (2001) and 60th (2011) wedding anniversaries.

 

Family History

Dad was born in Greenwhich, Connecticut.

His father, Andrew R., was born in Scotland in 1884 and his mother, Mary Wallignan was born in Finland in 1889 and were married in 1920.

Dad's father received his U.S. Citizenship in 1912 and his mother in 1913.

Dad  had one sister, Lillie who was born in 1920 in Scotland.

His family also resided in Tuxedo and Roslyn Heights, New York.

Dad graduated from Roslyn High School in 1942 and went to work at Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corporation in Port Washington.

On January 19, 1943,  he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps.  He served in the Engineering and Personnel Offices in Italy and Southern France until he was discharged on November 7th, 1945.

Dad then worked at the Long Island Lighting Company until his retirement in 1984.
