It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Andrew “Drew” Ruehlicke, age 21, of Mullica Hill, NJ. Drew passed away suddenly on Saturday, October 8 at York College of Pennsylvania where he was majoring in Sport Management and minoring in Finance. He had hoped to pursue a career in the sport industry in the field of stadium operations and/or sales.

Drew was a dedicated student who carried a 4.0 GPA and was a member of the Dean’s List each of his four semesters at York College. Drew cherished his time as a member of the York Men’s Soccer Team that became his family away from home. Drew played in 25 games for the Spartans, tallying two goals and an assist this season.

Drew was a 2020 graduate of Bishop Eustace Preparatory School where he was a member of the National Honor Society and Soccer Team Co-Captain. Drew was named 1st Team All Conference, Conference Forward of the Year, Bishop Eustace Player of the Year, an All-State Honorable Mention and was selected for the SJSCA Senior All-Star Game his senior year.

Drew’s love of sports began at an early age as he enjoyed many years playing baseball for Brooklawn, SJ Bulls and Harrison Twp Little League and soccer for Harrison Soccer Club. Drew loved to ski, hike and travel and was a passionate Philly sports fan. Drew was born in Cincinnati Ohio which resulted in an intense loyalty to The Ohio State University Buckeyes.

Beyond his passion for sports and his achievements in the classroom and on the field, Drew was a wonderful son that made his parents, Teresa and Jan, incredibly proud. He was a much-loved little brother and best-friend to his sister, Katie and was adored by his grandparents, Tom and Bev Standish and his Opa Peter Ruehlicke.  Family meant the world to Drew and he looked forward to his time with uncles, Tom, John and Niels, his Aunt Stephanie and Kerstin, and cousins Tommy, Connor, JD and Jayden. Drew was well-liked by his friends, teammates, coaches and teachers. He was hard-working, humble, gracious, respectful and kind. Drew’s glass was always half-full and he led his life with a strong moral compass. No words can ever adequately express how much Drew meant to those who loved him and what a tremendous hole his passing has left in their lives.

Drew was predeceased by his Oma Heidi Ruehlicke.

Services will be held at The Catholic Community of the Holy Spirit Parish Center, 17 Earlington Avenue, Mullica Hill, NJ on Monday, October 17. Visitation will be 10:30am-12:30pm, followed by Eulogy and preparation for the offering of Funeral Mass which will begin at 1pm. Interment private.

In lieu of flowers, Drew’s family requests donations be directed to York College Men’s Soccer by going to https://giving.ycp.edu/SpartanAdvance  . For Designation select: Mens Soccer. We are heartbroken for your family, and will continue to pray for you in the many difficult days to come. Our thoughts are with you and hope that helps you in some small way. With our heartfelt sympathy for the loss of your loving son, Drew, from John and Irmi Hummel

"We little knew that morning, God was going to call your name,
In life we loved you deeply, In death we do the same.
It broke our hearts to lose you, You did not go alone.
For part of us went with you, The day God called you home.
You left us beautiful memories, Your love is still our guide,
And though we cannot see you, You are always by our side.
Our family chain is broken, And nothing seems the same,
But as God calls us one by one, The chain will link again."

Jan - my heart breaks. My son is Andrew as well. I remember our short friendship so fondly, with so much care free youthful joy. Even to this day I share your story with my own son and encourage him to push for his opportunity as you did for yours. Your legacy will endure. Much love to you.
