Obituary

Andrew James Johnson - 66 passed away Saturday December 1, at Nanaimo General Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Ipswich, Suffolk, Enland, son of the late Mauris and Mavis Johnson. He is survived by his wife, (Jennifer) Lynn (Sanford), Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, son Nicholas of Kincardine, Ontario, daughter Luella Miller, grandson Matthew Miller  of Nanaimo, B.C. brother Richard Johnson of Bramfield,  Suffolk, England and twin sister, Rosemary (Johnson)Callaby of Heacham, Norfolk, England.

Andrew spent his early years growing up on the farm in rural Suffolk. He attended  the London School of Economics and the Essex Institute of Agriculture in Wriddle U.K. After he obtained his diploma he set off to see the world by transporting pedigree cattle from Britain to various parts of the world. He made it to Nova Scotia, where he met his wife, then they both returned to England. His children, Nicholas and Luella were born in Newmarket, Suffolk. In  1979 they all returned  Nova Scotia for a brief time, then travelled north to what was then called Lake Harbour, Northwest Territories. Where he served as Co-Op manager and later as Hamlet Manager. Later he migrated to Iqaluit where he worked in various capacities, Housing Authority Manager, Lands Officer for the Town of Iqaluit, and as Regional Representative for the Union of Northern Workers. In 1998 he retired and moved to The Lodge in Lunenburg County, then later to Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. In 2011, having had enough of retirement, he moved to Spruce Grove, Alberta where he started a small business servicing various mining camps. When he became seriously ill he moved to Nanaimo, B.C. to be near his daughter and Grandson.
