Shark fishing on Captiva Island

December 5, 2012
My Uncle Andrew at his very best joined my father, husband Oli and Nick on an impromptu fishing trip while celebrating my sister's marriage in Florida. The previous evening they had avidly watched some rather drunk businessmen trying to reel a shark in off a jetty-unsuccessfully I might add! Filled with excitement and enthusiasm they chartered a boat the next morning and, like a group of schoolboys set forth to net a shark themselves. They returned many hours later still in a state of over excitement. I don't think much was caught but they had had an adventure. Uncle Andrew loved an adventure, it was when he was in his element x

Nick's dad passed on Saturday. I only recently meet him, and although he was gravely ill, he made me laugh and made sure that I knew how happy he was that Nick has somebody in his life. There was no remorse or self pity, only hapiness for his son. His name was Andrew and he was a gentleman to the end. I feel such a loss that I didn't have the time to know him better.

Andrew: I promise you that your memory will not be forgotten and that if Nick and I become a family in the future, you will have grandchildren that will grow knowing who their grandfather was.

Nick: I love you and I am here for you. There is more of your father in you than you know and you are a better man for it.

My love also to your mom and the rest of your family.

Condolences, also from my parents and the Garbes.

Last Thoughts

December 4, 2012

Dad,

You kept your wit and intelligence right up to the end. From you remembering the name of a long lost acquaintance at the lake, to the joke you made Friday saying there was plenty of room on the roof rack for your hospital bed. My last visits with you were as rich as those of years gone by.

Take care.

Nick
