Engr. Andrew Wangwa Evoh

Andrew Wangwa Evoh was born in Aba, Abia State, Nigeria on the 1st of September 1939. He was the first son and eldest child of Late Mr. & Mrs. Jonah Wachukwu Evoh.

Andrew popularly called "Andy" started his early education at Government School, Aba from January 1946-December 1952 where he got his first school leaving certificate.

Andy's secondary education started at Government College Afikpo in January 1953 as the first set (Aborigine) and finished in December 1957 where he obtained his West African School Certificate. He went further to obtain his General Certificate of Education 'A' Level in Mathematics  Physics which was awarded by University of London in January 1962. He also attended Yaba College of Technology (formerly Technical Institute Yaba) from October 1959-June 1962 and was awarded Federal Government Certificate in Mechanical Engineering. Andy was awarded an Ordinary Certificate of City & Guilds of London Institute in Mechanical Engineering in June 1962.

He proceeded to University of Nigeria, Nsukka in October 1963 as the third set of the school, and obtained a B. Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering in June 1967. He was a Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, New York since July 1967 and was registered as an Engineer by the Council of Registered Engineers of Nigeria(COREN) since 1973. He was the first engineer in his local government area.

Andy worked in various companies like Nigerian Coal corporation, Enugu and Schlumberger West Africa (Nigeria) Limited, Port Harcourt where he ganered some experience before he finally settled with the Electricity Corporation of Nigeria(NEPA) from July 1967 as an engineer. In March 1982 he finally retired from service as a Manager at Headquarters NEPA i/c Planning and Design of Distribution networks for the entire country(Nigeria). During the period of his active service, he attended various management courses and upgraded himself. 

Andy explored the world of business from April 1982, setting up and running different businesses with extensive exposure to the world of engineering where he excelled. He was crowned a red cap chief in 1988 with the title 'OKU NA ENYE IHE 1 OF AMAVO under Isiala Ngwa Constituency. He was born in the Anglican church and later in life moved on to Restoration Bible Church where he fellowshipped and served God until he passed on. His hobbies were photography and gardening and he loved playing tennis and cricket.

Even though Andy had started experiencing some health challenges since 2007, he was a great achiever and a devout christian.Despite his prevailing health challenge, Andy remained courageous and was a source of joy to his family & friends. He always smiled even to the very end.

Andy is survived by his adorable wife Christy who stood by him through thick and thin, 9 children-Uzochukwu, Chinwe, Chika, Ijeoma, Uloma, Okechukwu, Chidiebere, Patience & Joseph, 7 grandchildren Alexandra, Ijeoma, David, Chinenye, Annette,Uchechukwu & David Chikamso. He is also survived by 7 sisters-inlaw and 7 brothers-inlaw, siblings, aunties, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces.
