Anne Morton Hester Jenkins, 81, a longtime resident of Granville County passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 8th 2012 at Universal Healthcare in Oxford.

She was born August 23, 1930 to the late Howard Badgett and Margaret Burwell Hester. She lived in Creedmoor with her late husband Bobbitt Jenkins for over 40 years. She was known in the community for her athleticism and was affectionately nicknamed “Tom”. She was fondly remembered  rounding the bases with her braided pigtails flying out behind her. Anne was the pitcher for the Knights, Lucky Strikes and the E.C.T.C. men’s intramural team. While at East Carolina, Anne was the bat girl for the men’s baseball team. She graduated from East Carolina in 1952 with a teaching degree in physical education. Throughout her life she enjoyed sports. She took up golf in her 40’s attending most of South Granville athletic events. She and her husband Bobbitt also were members of the NC State Wolfpack Club and attended NC State football games for over 40 years.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2:30 PM Saturday, February 11th at Banks United Methodist Church Cemetery by Rev. James C. Shelley Jr. located on Hwy 96, Creedmoor(Wilton Community).

Surviving are her daughters, Sarah Jenkins Brown and husband Rufus of Benson, Bettie Anne Jenkins of Charlotte , a granddaughter Sarah L. Beitzel   and finance’ John Pearce of Clayton, a grandson R. J. Brown  of Benson, her loving sister, Lois H. Hight  and sister-in-law Mary Anne Hester, both of Oxford. She was preceded in death by a son, William Bobbitt Jenkins Jr., three sisters, Mary H. Floyd, Alice H. Howard, Jean H. Hart and a brother, Ben S. Hester.

Anne loved her Hester Family and is grateful to her nieces, nephews, sister, and cousins for their love, prayers and support. The family would also like to thank Alice Faye Thorpe for her loving care and the staff at Universal Healthcare.

In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Creedmoor United Methodist Church or to Banks United Methodist Church.

Visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 PM Saturday, February 11th at the Eakes Funeral Home in Creedmoor.

Eakes Funeral Home in Creedmoor is assisting the Jenkins family.

You are in my thoughts and I would love to hear from you. I have a daughter in charlotte.
