Multiple Myeloma, Blood Cancer
Multiple Myeloma, Blood Cancer, color me magenta: One of the most little known and spoken of, cancer's there is. Always fatal! It is basically malignant plasma cells forming at such a rapid rate in the bone marrow, all the healthy cells are killed off. The cause is unknown. Annie's cancer was very aggressive, as noted by her prognosis of maybe 4 weeks, with the lingering unanswered question of, "why is she still alive." Those are facts. Her bone marrow was over 80% cancer. Annie survived for 30 months. Her daily struggle for life is well documented in the book, to include many intimate conversations. Annie was a great humanitarian, and I know she would have wanted me to reach out to other's anyway I can, in an effort to help them. Well I accomplished that with this book. I get emails, letter's, cards, and facebooks message's, telling me how touched they have been by the book. The story is factually correct, tragic at times, and in places will make you smile. She was a character~known for her trademark smile, and deep from the belly laughter. Through her tears and pain, you could always count on her smile coming out at some point. Acknowledgments: Letter from Dr Tom Moore, dtd 3/9/12, Chairman of Oschner Medical Center, infectiouse disease control, New Orleans, La. He was also nonimated to be the assistand director of the CDC while being Annie's infectious disease control doctor in 2009. He read the book and sent me a handwritten letter. "Thank you for the wonderful book." Personal note, then he said, "I wish you all the best with the book, it made for a good read." Valentines day 2012: Phone call from Dr Moore Sr., Annie's oncologist. He had been working with blood cancer for over 40 years. He read the book and said it was one of the best book's he had ever read on cancer. He said the book will touch so many people. He further said the book caught him off guard. He knew I was writing, but had no idea of the complexities of the book, until he read the story. He's not saying the story is complex, his infrence was Annie went to hell and back, and survived against all the odd's so many times. Those truths are well documented. He really didn't know the details of all the things that she went through at home. I was her caregiver, 24/7 for the 30 months. It was a real honor and priviledge to care for my beautiful wife of 39 years. You'll feel the love, and come to understand the level of care it took me, and all the medical staff and support folks to keep her going. If I could do anything over again I would change the title of the book. After all, it is about cancer. I titled the book," Gods Plan for Annie, Why She Had to Die." Unfortunately, I've had to come to terms with the fact that over 70% of our population in this country don't go to church or know God. Therefore, they see the title and walk away. Not understanding that the book contains such a beautiful personal story. The book isn't about God. Annie was an atheist. During her cancer she made a transformation to Chirsainity, in a way that I would never have expected. So, the side effects of the cancer, was Annie receiving Christ. The events leading to her new found love of God were way over my hear. But they are part of the story, and can't be denied. Many times, the doctor's didn't have the answers. She was dying! But she wouldn't die, and it became apparent , not so much to the scientists, but to me there was something else going on.I didn't understand it, but went with the flow. So, the book is about cancer, and once you get through the introduction to chapter one, you will clearly see and understand what an insane world Annie and I lived in. It's a good story, and there is so many life lessons in it, and so much knowledge to be gleaned. There is a message in there for every one. Chapter 14, is a walk through to Annie's death. Very sad and tragic, but will let you see and experience the feeling of losing a loved one in a way that will in some ways help you if need be. You will hear the conversations as if you were there. Annie's integrity and character through her last two days are awe inspiring. She was so brave and gracious.
The picture above was at a signing I did in Wichita, Ks, at Barnes and Noble on St Patricks day, this year, 2012. It was a great day, and Barnes and Noble were extremely pleased, and said I was one of the better sellers they had seen in a long time.
