ForeverMissed

This memorial website was created in memory of our loved one, Annie Oliver, born on October 8, 1940, and passed away on April 18, 2021. We will remember her forever.

Feel free to share this site with friends and family members.  Everyone is welcome to leave PICTURES, STORIES, and TRIBUTES here.

My mom, Ann, was a strong, proud, and caring person.  She never knew a stranger.  She looked for uniqueness and beauty in every individual.  If she saw something special in someone, she would let it be known.

She would walk up to them and say, "are you a musician?” because of their style, or she would say, “are you a model?", if she considered them to be fashionable.  The strange thing is, she was usually right.  She had an eye for those that were unique and different because she was.

Mom was a music enthusiast. From Mozart, Marvin, Mahalia, Kem, Sam Cook, and Porgy and Bess to Tupac Shakur.  She came from a long line of musicians.  Fun fact . . . My mom's dad and Eddie Kendricks of the Temptations’ dad were brothers.  All her sisters were singers with amazing vocals. Her brother, Edgar Kendricks, helped discover Sesame Street and opened the door for Luther Vandross, who was an unknown musician at the time. My mom loved singing and playing the piano with her baby brother Edgar.

She was very opinionated, and she would always lend you her ear and give advice.  She didn't tell you what you wanted to hear, she told you what she felt you needed to hear.

My mom taught me so many things . . .
- No excuses.
- Never settle.
- Walk like you know where you're going.
- Brace your shoulders.
- Speak your mind.
- Dream big.
- Stand out . . . Never blend in.
- People are going to talk about you anyway, so give them something to talk about.
- Make sure when someone asks you to speak that you have something powerful to say.
- Watch what people do, not what they say.

She would always laugh and say . . . " You better give me my roses while I'm here, because I won't be here forever.” Then she would laugh and say . . . "let me give you yours too because neither will you!"

She fought a good fight.  When her dementia took a turn for the worse, she went through many phases.  Confusion, anger, rebellion, and eventually peace, to mention a few.  For those of you that truly know my mom, you will understand this statement.  When she was no longer giving her caretakers hell, I knew it was the beginning of the end.

Mom, thank you for loving me, challenging me, and motivating me.  Your sisters and I laugh and share stories about you. Me, Steve, and the kids enjoyed summers, holidays and trips with you.

I am sure there is a full-blown concert going on up heaven. I love you Mom.

I can hear you saying... I LOVE YOU MORE. ♥️

Ms. Oliver -
Unique • resolute • strong • cool yet feisty • artistic • observant and wise; not to mention humorous, if you were privy enough for her to reveal that side of her.

She was family! - Mom to my dear sister-in-law Pasha and mother-in-law to my twin brother. Pasha and her mom shared a close, loving, unbreakable mother/daughter bond; and Ms. Oliver and my brother’s relationship was special.

I’ll miss listening to her unique perspective on various topics, and overhearing the conversations she shared w/ my wife over their common love for “all things music!”

REST WELL - ❤️❤️

Mrs. Oliver (Auntie Ann),
I loved her and she loved me. I trusted her and she trusted me. She listened to me and always encouraged me. Pasha and I were inseparable and she blessed our sisterhood. My parents divorced and we moved. Within a year, I moved back in with my dad and right back next door to the Olivers. Sometimes I would watch for her car. Countless days I would ring the bell and wait on her to come to the door with her smile. She always had time to sit and listen and guide me. When I needed her to lift me, she did effortlessly. Her spirit always calmed me and reassured me. Sometime we just sat together quietly. When I was naive about things, she educated me. She gave me confidence when I needed it and encouraged me to dream big.
Auntie Ann always looked like she walked out of a page of Vogue magazine. Her home looked like House Beautiful magazine 365 days a year. Sometimes Pasha and I had the rare privilege of being with her in the master bedroom and enjoying the treasures inside. She’d let us have a fashion show with her amazing things!! We just knew we were destined to be famous models!!
Aunt Ann continued giving me treasures of love and wisdom for decades to come. I always rang the bell and waited to see her smile. On one of my visits home, we sat catching up on life as usual. I told her I wanted to go dancing but wasn’t going because I had nothing to wear and didn’t have time to shop in Montgomery. She asked me what I needed and told me to follow her. She led me into the magic of her closet. Ann Oliver only had the finest and she generously offered me whatever I wanted to wear that night!! She even had fabulous high heel sandals which fit perfectly (which was nothing short of a miracle). Once dressed, she had me walk for her and she reminded me that I could pursue a career in modeling. You couldn’t tell me I wasn’t the baddest babe in town that night! We met when I was just a girl. She really knew me and we were family.  She was my aunt, second mom, and my trusted friend who knew my secrets. When we were together, I was home.  She was friends with both of my parents long after their divorce. She guided me through high school, college, and many decades after. Ann Oliver loved me and I loved her. It was so much more than that, but I can’t ....
I have pics of the night I ruled the runaway dressed by Aunt Ann! I’m posting them.
Thank you (for everything), Auntie.

Mrs. Oliver, you’ll be greatly missed. I think back on the fashions shows that the girls and I had the opportunity to be a part of. You displayed a lot of style and grace. Pasha will be well taken care, of as you know. Between Steve, her children, and us,”The TDF Crew”. It has truly been a blessing. I feel as though God has gained a Diva and we have gained a guardian angel! God bless!!

MOM...
I am who I am because of your unconditional love & guidance.
- I am where I am in life because of your words and advice.
- I am in a beautiful marriage because you refused to stay out of my relationships.
- I am an entrepreneur because you were one first.

You encouraged me to question the status quo and fight for what is right.

Every student that was blessed to have you as their guidance counselor had doors of opportunities opened for them because of you.

You were a MOM to all of my friends. They all LOVED YOU! You were that cool mom that would pull up blasting Tupac, and then turn around and give ALL of my friends your advice on their relationships.

You never let ANYONE talk negatively about your kids. I remember my elementary school telling you that I needed to work on my conduct and you told them that they need to work on their teaching methods. Lord help me.‍♀️

You could sing and play the piano. You were a fashion icon. I remember looking forward to seeing what you wore to work because it was like my own fashion show.

I LOVE YOU MOM! Rest in POWER Give daddy a BIG HUG and an eskimo kiss from me.

The Supportive Mom

April 24, 2021
You supported and celebrated EVERYTHING that I did. This picture says it all. This was one of my first promotions in the business world.  You were so proud of me.  I was so grateful to have you walk up to that podium beside me.

I will support my kids just like you supported yours.

The Grandmother

Your grandkids loved you and understood you.  They loved hearing your stories about the Civil Rights Movement and your crazy dog, Shag.

Justin would always say DON'T FORGET TO FACETIME ME every time I would come see you. You lit up with just the sound of his voice.  They have so many funny stories and memories about their Grandma Ann.

The Mother-n-Law

You chose Steve before I did! LOL... I remember being in what I thought was a decent relationship at the time, but you must have asked me a thousand times... HAVE YOU AND STEVE CARTER MET EACH OTHER YET?

We were all in the same company and you saw him at a Convention.  You continued to press the issue... Along with your sister Aunt Jan. I AM FOREVER GRATEFUL that you unapologetically stayed in my business.

You knew the kind of person that I needed in my life and you made sure you let it be known...even when it wasn't popular. Thanks Mom.

We were like Charlie's Angels!

I enjoyed the vacations  my aunt Ann and I took. We vacationed a lot in the 80's and always made plans for the next vacation before we parted ways in the Caribbean. OMG... we had so many laughs and shared beautiful stories. I was in my twenties and admired my aunt in so many ways. I was confused still trying to find my way through life. Ann and my mom would sit and listen watching out for me to make sure I didn't get into too much trouble. We laid on the beach, listened to the waves and moved our bodies to the sounds of Caribbean music. She loved to sing and dance!
My mother enjoyed watching us interact with each other. It's funny how you can feel so at peace with someone even though you are so many years apart but, my aunt Ann always made you feel comfortable. She was amazing in every way.

She was the master at building a business. Never took "No" for an answer. LOL

My sweet angel  rest In peace. You will always hold a soft spot in my heart.

Until we meet again rest my angel!

An awesome woman of God who had the audacity to tell those around her “You are someone special and great things are within you.” Words of encouragement she shared with me that I will forever hold dear and to this day speak over my children. I will always cherish the private time spent listening to her impart into me wisdom, guidance and even correction with love and support. My life has surely been blessed because you were in it Mrs Oliver.
In the words of one of you favorite artist do know “You Are Appreciated.” Good night Queen Ann, see you in that great getting up morning! God bless the Oliver family and continue to strengthen them with your peace.
