This memorial website was created to celebrate and cherish the extraordinary life of Prof. Ambikanandan Rajnarayan Misra - a loving husband, a caring father, a beloved brother, a loyal friend, a nurturing teacher, a highly-accomplished researcher, a visionary leader and a compassionate human being! He wore these hats with panache and an effortless ease, all the while remaining humble and grounded.

The best way to remember him is as a teacher - Professor Ambikanandan Misra. He led by example and was always willing to help others and share his experience. Over the course of his professional career -- as a Professor of Pharmaceutics -- he guided 47 PhD and 136 M.Pharm. students. Fulfillment for him was seeing the success of his students and he was incredibly proud of what his students (and family members) went on and achieved.

However, Prof. Misra himself was a highly-accomplished researcher who won many awards over the course of his glittering career. To name a few, he won: 1) a National award that was conferred by the Vice President of India, 2) a Best Scientist of the Year award by the Association of Pharmaceutical Teachers in India (APTI), 3) an International award for Outstanding Manuscript by American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS), 4) a Best Reviewer award in Pharmaceutical Sciences by Elsevier, and 5) an Illustrious Alumnus award by MSU Pharmacy Alumni Association. He also published 9 books, 60 book chapters and 181 peer-reviewed publications. His h-index is 46, with a total of 8586 citations (as of 17th October, 2020). He truly had an an outstanding career, by any yardstick!

Through this website, we will share the accomplishments, stories and anecdotes that illustrate how Prof. Misra touched the lives of so many people, and the respect, love and gratitude that everyone has in their hearts for him. We hope that the example he set through his actions will inspire you to greater things, which is truly the way to honor and celebrate the extraordinary life of Prof. Misra!

Don’t think of him as gone away
his journey’s just begun,
life holds so many facets
this earth is only one.

Just think of him as resting
from the sorrows and the tears
in a place of warmth and comfort
where there are no days and years.

Think how he must be wishing
that we could know today
how nothing but our sadness
can really pass away.

And think of him as living
in the hearts of those he touched…
for nothing loved is ever lost
and he was loved so much.
- Ellen Brenneman

Letting Prof. Misra go is the hardest thing we had to face, but we know that he is still changing lives for good, from wherever he is and will go! He will always remain in our hearts and memories, and his teachings shall always be there to inspire and guide us in life.

You can leave a tribute, write a story, share pictures or videos about Prof. Misra. Such contributions will be extremely useful in keeping the memories alive of Prof. Misra, and provide nuggets of his wisdom that he would share so liberally around.

Miss you, papa! Took your granddaughter to the temple on your birthday to seek blessings (from her baba)! She couldn't meet you, but I am sure you're showering your blessings on her! Some of it was evident at the temple -- she was very fussy the entire day, but was sitting very calmly in the temple on my lap for the entire time while watching San Baba's idol and listening to the aarti :)

Bhayia, why were you in a hurry to go to your final destination. You suddenly left us, for that I was not prepared at all.
Sometimes I feel as I am in unreal world or in dream.
I used to feel protected when you were in the world, but now so helpless only thinking of that sad truth.
Remain happy, where are you at present.

Remembering “Bhaiya”
(Dr. Ambika Nandan Misra)

A Eulogy:

We all in our extended family and friend circle know the many very high scholastic and excellence in Pharmaceutical field awards Dr. Ambika Nandan Misra received throughout his lifetime.
To me “Bhaiya”, as he was fondly called by his family, truly personified “simple living and exemplary behavior every way”.
Anytime I was in his company, I could feel his warmth, calmness, and peacefulness.
He was gem of a person all his life.
Losing him to COVID has been very sad.
The solace I have is from the conviction that his soul is now with God and enjoying total bliss.

I am still not able to come out of the shock of bhaiya’s sudden demise.. It all seems as a passing phase and I still have to come to terms with the fact that I will not see bhaiya again...
His smiling face comes to my mind everytime ... he was a big support and a kind hearted soul even during his last days he helped me procure a most needed drug in Delhi while sitting in Vadodara...
My childhood spent with him was all about sibling love and revelry ... I knew I could fall back upon him for any kind of help and he will always be there for me... He was closest to me of all the brothers... His passing away has left a void in my life which can never be filled....May God keep him happy and peaceful... Om Shanti...

I lost my Bhaiya.
I can feel and write a long essay on him. I am very senior in age to him. Not a single complaint and unpleasant incident in my long life against him. He was a rare person in high knowledge and simplicity.
I force myself to remain calm, but love and emotions overflow.

Heaven gained another angel today. Ambikanandan Misra, my mama, was one of the most genuine and selfless person I have met. He lived a life of a true teacher. Even in his last days when he was the most vulnerable, he put others first. He was a friend when I was young and counsellor when I needed one. He will be missed. Please pray for the family and all the loved ones he left behind.

Dear Bhaiya,

We are left heartless as you left us so unexpectedly. Perhaps, God needed a noble soul at that very moment and He did not have a better choice than you.

As I think of you, your memories start flooding in and around me. You were inseparable from our family. Outside of your academic engagements, you were always concerned immensely with the affairs of our Misra family and gave your guidance wherever it was required. Besides the time spent with you and Sarita at Lucknow, I also fondly remember the trips taken with you to Shirdi, to Dwarkaji, and recently to Mathura-Vrindavan. In all those places, we could enjoy our carefree stay only because you took the burden of meticulous planning and execution of our stay. Bhaiya may your soul rest In eternal peace!!

Om Sai Ram !!

From yours,
Pushpa Bhabhi

May you be at peace in your heavenly abode and you will continue to be in my memories forever.

Bhaiya chacha, you will be missed...!! But I am sure you are happy where you are and are blessing all of us from there. I met chacha for the first time when he visited us in Charlotte. I still remember walking the downtown streets with chacha and chachi, and then having coffee with them. Chacha visited us in Boston, and we took a trip down to Martha’s Vineyard. Ayan was almost two years and chacha spent a lot of time playing with him. Out of all the trips he made to the US, my most favorite one was Raleigh, where we chatted for hours, had amazing food and took a tour of the Duke University!!

My recent conversations with Chacha happened when we were working on the Ram Niwas book. In-spite of his extensive traveling, he made sure to join the calls, and I could see how passionate he was towards completing this book!!

Chacha, you have taught us to fly high and your teachings will always be an inspiration!

Badri chacha we miss your presence but am confident that angels have accepted you with an open arm. I am sure Daddy will make sure that your ride beyond this Earth will be a pleasant one, after all he always mentioned how you were his favorite cousin. While it is incredibly sad to lose someone like you, the beautiful memories that we got an opportunity to create with you shall last our lifetime. One such memory is the fun ride on your two wheeler from the Vadodara station to your home - while we were scared by the speed, you made sure we have fun all the while... lots of love and charansparsh

Chacha I am laying a flower to honor your life because even when a flower perishes, it leaves people with the beautiful fragrance and memories of its life. I know we couldn't stay in touch and meet the last few years of your life but you remained for me a constant presence. I always knew that I had one uncle who, like me, believed in the power of research and knowledge, who believed in equal opportunities for girls and boys, and who above all believed in being honest and open. Perhaps it is your honesty and saying things 'as they are' that I will miss the most. I have so many memories from Charbagh and your visits to Valsad where you would just call on people, including my father (your brother) for doing irrational things, in your usual honest and funny way. I still laugh. When you asked ajiya for instance, "amma yeh pillowcase akhri baar kab dhoyaa thaa?" Or when you asked me when I was much older, "Gina beer peenaa hai to aise hee bataa do." I also want to thank you from the bottom of my heart as the only person who stood for me when I was in high school and encouraged me to pursue a "non-traditional" career path. I wish I could have told you in person. May be you wouldn't even think of it but years later, now, as I have made my own life on my terms, I realize how much it meant for me to have an uncle like you in my life. We are all still shocked and it's still sinking in and eventually we will all continue living but as a tribute to you as a person and scholar, at least I promise to live it up and live my life in pursuit of knowledge. Always.

My interaction with Prof. Ambikanandan Misra Sir initiated from M.Pharm and further through Ph.D at MSU. Each interaction has always been a great learning and inspiration for me. He always wanted me to work for my own satisfaction. After each bunch of experiments he used to ask me are you satisfied? He also inspired me to work for a cause/ purpose. He always was and will be a fatherly figure for me. His playful nature revealed when he started interacting with my daughter Haimi. She remembers him as Misra Dada. Sir, You are always alive and would be guiding us through life. Thank you for sharing your life with Me.

Dr. Ambika Nandan Misra was my mama. His emotionally strong personality made him guardian, if not father, figure for many. I too saw him as my extended parent. He would ALWAYS had same emotions as my parents did on my achievements. It is heartbreaking to accept that he is not among us today. He left behind a ton of memories. I will always lovingly remember liberties I took with him and he always responded with either love or Mama-wala-gussa(which was practically nothing).

His love and affection is etched in my soul. While I mourn his passing now, I will forever celebrate his life through his teachings and guidance .

Love and regards

I wish to express my heart -felt gratitude towards, Dr. Ambikanandan Misra, who to me was a well-wisher, a father-figure, an inspiring dynamic, vibrant person with a heart of gold. I first met him in a research meeting this year on Feb 3, and in the short period of 8 months, he mentored me on research, grants, encouraged and motivated me. There will never be anyone like Misra Sir, who in a short period made such a profound impression on my life and to whom I will remain forever indebted to. My words fall short of what a great personality Sir was. He deserves the highest awards and the highest honours. People like Dr. Misra are rare and he was invaluable to me and all my colleagues at SPPSPTM. He remains vibrantly alive in our memories and we hope to be as passionate and dedicated to our work as he was. He will continue to guide and inspire us.

You have been my guiding star and will always be. I will cherish your wise and witty comments and all those tiny and big fond memories with you forever. My mind was always at ease knowing that you were in my corner. If something goes wrong, I would turn to you and your simplest advice would make it feel like it is nothing. Now that you are not here, I feel anxious but I believe you will still watch over me from up above.
I will miss you dearly Misra sir. You rest in peace now.

Tribute to Late Prof. A.N. Misra from MSU Pharmacy Alumni Association

November 11, 2020
An inspiring and untiring professional with attitude and never unfading smile. His life’s journey can never be forgotten. The man himself Prof. A. N. Misra was a name by itself. MPA witnessed his graceful presence and enduring efforts to blossom as an association to motivate and continuously educate the current students and the alumni. Sir taught us to achieve in abundance and distribute it generously. Sir also contributed to bring us together on the platform of MPA even after we got busily engaged in our post academic professional activities, but today we have gathered here to mourn his untimely demise from this mortal world leaving us bereaved in unending sorrow. His inspiring light will reign over millions of hearts for eternity. We pray to god to grace his soul with eternal peace and also give us the strength to bear the loss and follow the spark that sir has ignited in each one of us.

My lovely Bhayia.

November 10, 2020
I had met with you one year before at Bridavan.  Since then I got no opportunity to see you.
When I was residing at Indore, your visits to my home were frequent, but now here at  Pune our meetings were reduced only two.
You will remain in my heart as a very dear younger brother for ever.
