Amp J,

Thanks for being different intentionally! Thanks for challenging others to step outside of their comfort zones! Thanks for making others laugh even when laughing wasn't in them! Thanks for your unprecedented swag! Thanks for the charisma and debonair persona! Thanks for the "I just don't 'gaf'!" attitude! Thanks for being the levels of authenticity others were too afraid to be or just didn't know how to go about it! Thanks for being fearless! Thanks for being a beacon of hope to those who were almost at their breaking points! Thanks for convincing me to visit Los Angeles, California for the very first and only time in my life! Thanks for being my personal Uber/Lyft driver while I was there! LOL! Thanks for the BIG laughs! Thanks for being what others desired to be! Thanks for attempting to give Ensley what it so needs! Thanks for being the better side of Birmingham, Alabama! Thanks for being a fine example of a human being! Thanks for being an unwavering friend! Thanks for leaving a legacy behind that we'll NEVER forget! Thanks for dying so that others may live!

Take your eternal rest, Amp J! We'll take it from here! We gotcha, Fam!!! I Love You!

I met Anthony Freshmen year at Alabama A&M. I remembered him always being happy and joking with his boys on the yard. Even at Homecoming later in the years, it was a pleasure to be in his presence. He would always take the time out in passing in college and Homecoming to speak and share a joke or two together. His light will be missed in this world, but not forgotten. Blessings and comfort to the family.

Amp was a star, in the most humble and peace loving way. He had big dreams, and hope for his future! I met him through a mutual friend and he was instantly a brother and homie. When my mom passed, Amp was one of the first messages I saw on that day lettingme know that i had a friend. He was compassionate and thoughtful. The conversations were rich, the jokes were always on time and the genuineness of his personality was comforting. I remember us hanging out at that friends house and later went out for food and I fondly remember, we were in the car singing songs from our days growing up in church like a choir. No question about it, He loved God, His Mama and good Music. I wish that your dash would have been longer. But you lived your life fully, and unapologetically and I know that you will find perfect rest. May God keep your family and strengthen your friends.
I'll miss you Bro! May your spirit Live Forever! #Foreveryoung ❤

My next door neighbor since we were little boys, His mother was like mother to me, I watched him become a great and good man.
I can still hear him yelling at me “ what’s up Fam!” He was always encouraging and supportive, he loved his mother more than anything and I’m so hurt that she has to endure this… Anthony was one of those rare people that could see beyond the big picture, we talked about everything from politics, art, music, math, music ! Especially music ! history life! He was a brilliant man and I knew he was destined for greatness, he loved his community, he could have gone and thrived in any city in this world but he wanted to stay in Birmingham and he believed in that city, he always showed love to everyone as I knew, how and why someone would do this is beyond logic. He didn’t deserve this but he will not be forgotten. I could go on and on, it hurts… but I know that’s the last thing he would want… he probably make a joke and say ok “the marathon continues…” then tell me about his latest project, a man of vision a good man, I’ll miss you Amp thank you brother for your light.

The Hicks Family extends their deepest sympathies to your family. Your son Amp was a kind and humble young man in our community. Huntington Hills was blessed to have him as resident. He was always smiling and upbeat! He always would take time to stop and talk with my sons and myself...wave at my wife.
Lillian truly raised a good young man! He loved his mom dearly.....we are saddened because our friend's (Lillian) heart is heartbroken and that a great man in the making is no longer with us!!! Rest on Anthony, you did such a great job while here on earth. You have longed to meet the Father now Take your reward....

To the family of Amp: I have prayed so much for God's mercy and strength for you during this horrible time and moving forward. Please know you do not mourn alone. Amp was a great person who didn't deserve to be taken away from all who loved him. We've known each other for over 25 years, starting at AAMU. He called me Beauty queen which was so sweet. He was one of the coolest most laid-back people I've ever met. He was hilarious and gave me great laughs. He knew and loved God. He was well liked and loved by so many. I'm so sorry you are hurting. We hurt with you! I will forever miss him!!!

My music man. It’s like I really don’t know where to begin. We shared so much with each other. Remembering you being the first person I would call to come and pickup antique albums I would find that my dad had. You always had a positive word for me and would support anybody and celebrate everybody’s accomplishments. This is so hard. I Love You and will forever. I’m so grateful that there were many opportunities we shared for you to hear and know that my friend. Rest in Power and make fye music  for the angels to enjoy. ❤️

I met Amp at Parker when I moved back to Birmingham. He was always smiling, joking, and an all around sweet guy. I truly believe he never met a stranger because they would soon become family to him. We might not have spoken often because life takes people in different directions, but my classmate would always give you a big smile, hello, and hug when he saw you. I will miss his infectious personality and smile, and Class of 94 has truly lost another Great one. Rest Easy my friend, you will be missed.
