My dearest and amiable Aunt, I write this tribute wishing God gave me a few moments to chat with you before your departure. You were indeed an embodiment of grace and strength with lots of attributes to emulate. You were soft- spoken, kind, prayerful with words always seasoned with salt to edify anyone listening to you. Distance was never a barrier for you, you just had your way of still showing love and care for me. I really appreciate all your love and will dearly miss you. I love you. God has chosen this time to call you to Himself and we can't question Him. Rest on my Lovely Aunt!

It's really sad coming to terms with your passing but there is joy in my heart that you are resting with our lord and that's the best we all can hope for as you've attained the ultimate reward for being an absolute angel when you were with us. I'll never forget how much u cared for me and my siblings from when we were little till adulthood, I also remember just a few years ago u wouldn't go to sleep until i had parked my car inside to make sure everything was okay and i wouldn't have problems leaving the next morning, very little details but i appreciated every love and care you showed and i'll love you forever until we meet again in the presence of our lord. Adieu Grand Ma and may you rest in eternal peace.

I remember back in SS1 when I had measles and was brought back from school to Aguda because my cousins were at home and I couldn’t go home. You took me in and sacrificed so much for me during that period. Your love and selflessness during this time taught me a lot about family and sacrifices. I can’t forget how you bathed me everyday, putting yourself at risk of getting the virus. You also made sure I didn’t feel lonely during this period. I remember the countless times I came over to visit and you would make sure that I was okay and if I had an exam you made sure that the generator was left a little longer so that I could study. These little things really meant so much to me.
One especially was the time you went out of your way to find a further maths textbook for me when I forgot mine in school. You searched far and wide for that textbook because I had a test coming up. I didn’t appreciate that then but as I grew older, it became clearer that you were willing to sacrifice your time and effort to making sure that we all succeeded in life. For these acts of undying love- I thank you so much Grandma. I miss you so much and I’m rejoicing that you are in heaven watching over us with Grandpa and the angels.

Mrs Appolonia Ojiako, Grandma as I always called her, lived a life, worthy of emulation. A strong woman of principle and peace. She was a woman with a gentle smile and a soothing voice who brought joy to everyone she came across. She had an aura of peace and calmness. She loved God so much and never joked with her Catholic faith.
Grandma, We have a lot of memories; You were present for all my little and major milestones. You were my safe house, growing up I remember I would always run to you when mummy would tease me and you would come to my defense. I remember running to you to sing “ what shall I offer to the Lord?” when I learnt the song, you were so so proud of me even though my voice was so terrible. You taught all of us the importance of prayer and knowing God. I remember the moment I told you I got accepted into the University, the proud look on your face, your joy, your smile, the scene was one of breathtaking beauty. I remember if I get angry or I am spiraling or acting without thinking, you would calm me down with just your “ Ugonne come and sit down “ talks. Every time, before I go to school you would pray for me and give me those your “ going back to school” talks.
Although grandma got very sick near her end, I choose to remember her smiling, cracking jokes and laughing at me when I am being mischievous.
I do not want to and would not say goodbye grandma because I know you are always here with me. It is just that you are in a better place looking over us and away from all the pains and suffering. I miss you so so much grandma. I know I was really looking forward to telling you “I AM A DOCTOR now, grandma” but God had other plans. I love you so so much grandma, beyond words can actually express.
While we are grieved by the loss of one of the pillars in our family, we are grateful for the gift of her life, the monumental opportunity to know her, call her mummy, Aunty or grandmother and create these marvy memories. I find comfort and solace in knowing she is in a better place, looking out for all of us. Rest easy grandma. You are forever in our hearts and mind, where your memories will live on.
Your granddaughter,
Ugonnediaso Oguejiofor.

Her Life

Short Biography of Mrs Appolonia Ojiako

April 5, 2021
Mrs Appolonia Chinyelu Ojiako ( Nee Okaih) was born on January 30th 1936 into the family of Late Solomon Okaih of Nnukwu clan of Adazi-Nnukwu and Late Veronica Okaih (Nee Adimora) of Nkunu of Agulu. Her father was the first indigenous Catechist in the catholic Church,East of Nigeria. Her mother trained and groomed ladies who were engaged for marriage.

Appo as she was fondly called by her loved ones was the third child of eight children(three females and five males). She spent the early part of her life with her parents and they profoundly influenced her life especially by the devout life of her father Late Solomon Okaih (The Catechist).

She had her formal education at Holy Rosary Primary School at Adazi-Nnukwu managed by the Holy Rosary Sisters in 1941. After her primary education, she proceeded to Loretto Training College in 1948 where she obtained her Grade 111 Teacher’s Certificate.

With that, she taught in Holy Rosary School Akabor-Ahiara Mbaise in present day, IMO state. She proceeded to another Teacher Training College Uboma Etiti Umuahia in Abia state and obtained her Grade 11 Teacher’s Certificate. She taught in Holy Rosary Abor in Enugu state, and later was transferred to Holy Rosary School, Enugu. From Enugu she came down to Lagos. This was considered a significant achievement at that time.

Before delving into her marital life, it’s pertinent to point out that getting married did not stop her intense desire for education as she truly believed in the aphorism of Francis Bacon that “ knowledge is power.” Hence in 1989, she attended the Institute of education, Unversity of Ibadan Project Time Center Akoka, Lagos where she obtained The Associateship Certificate in  Education.

Mum, continued her career as a teacher and  taught in many schools in Lagos State .The Last school she taught was Duro Oyedoyin in1994. She retired on the 11th  of  February 1994 and later the same year, she joined her late husband Late Ichie James Ojiako in the Stocks and Shares business.

In November 16th 1963, she got married to late Ichie James Obioha Ojiako (a.k.a Ichie Akunnia) the union was blessed with four children ( three females and one male).
Mum was a born Catholic, she practically kept the faith. She saw her christian life as a personal  thing between her and God, her God fearing lifestyle was reflected in every bit of her conduct and human relations. She was a dedicated  member of St.Jude's society. A life member of Queen of all Hearts. A dedicated member of Our Mother of Perpetual Help. She was a dedicated  devotee of Divine Mercy, Purgatorian Society, and Precious  Blood of  Jesus. She was an  active member of Catholic Women Organization.
The women folk gave her the name Onyenudia. Onyenudia’s good nature was not limited to her family alone but transcended the extended family, very distant relations and people who bear no relation to her. She was so simple, so humble and unassuming, her doors were always  opened and she listened with compassion, she loved peace, she was not pretentious, she was so real, so honest and opened with nothing to  hide. She was fierce in opposing evil and in standing up for the truth, she was a great teacher, a great psychologist, a workaholic, a great pillar of support to Late Ichie James Obioha Ojiako and a great leader. She loved all that came across her enjoyed everybody's company and was a great hostess. Onyenudia was great cook and generously entertained all  comers to her home with her legendary cuisine. She was selfless in her service to her community  Adazi-Nnukwu Town Development Union Womens wing, Lagos Branch, for four years of Meritorious Service.

Mum you  clearly  understood the brevity of life and wisdom that comes with  it.
Mum has left an indelible mark on the sand of time. She would indeed be greatly missed.
Thus this short biography could not do any justice to the life and time of this wonderful  woman but rather it's an attempt to give a glimpse into her life to those who did not know  her well.
