Mama Dell,

I'll always remember waking up on the weekends in West Point and hearing you singing Gospel with the radio. Whenever I hear Mahalia Jackson, I hear you. That radio in the kitchen is classic and will never leave me! Continue to reast in heaven, my dear. Love you.

To the family of Mrs.Ardell Winston,
I just learned that Ardell had passed last night, when my cousin, Kathy, (my Uncle H.C.'s daughter called me)

I want to let all of you know that I will always remember Ardell 's warmth and welcoming embrace, whenever we would come down from Atlanta, to visit our West Point family members.

I want all of you,her and John Thomas' children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends to join me as we thank God for allowing her to be placed in our family circle.

With your cousin,
Janice L. Cook

I have so many great memories of Aunt Ardell. My favorites are playing with the family dog, Mutley...he lived a very long time. I also remember the old black antique telephone that was in the kitchen that I used to love to play with because it reminded me of the telephones used on Little House on the Prarie. Lastly, Aunt Ardell ordered a Rio perm advertised on the tv that was supposedly created to function as a perm but you could also eat it. She gave it to me. I tasted it and was so excited to put the perm in my hair....the following week, my hair began to slowly fall out inch by inch!! It was the best excuse to get a cute haircut! I'm going to miss talking to Aunt Ardell about the old days. RIH Auntie!!

Aunt Ardell

August 26, 2016

My earliest memories of Aunt Ardell are when we would come up to visit at Christmas. The whole family would ride up to West Point and visit all mom's sisters & their families for the day. There was always much fun playing with all my cousins and good food. Aunt Ardell made the best chocolate pound cake. Even though the family had moved back to West Point, Aunt Ardell faithfully sent her tithes with mom (Alberta), her sister to Macedonia Baptist church in Gold Hill Alabama. I am so glad I got to witness the love & affection shared between aunt Ardell & uncle John. After my marriage had failed and I moved back to Alabama I had the opportunity to spend time with them. The loving way they treated each other  restored my faith in an the possibility of having enduring love.  Aunt Ardell was the last sibling remaining of the McCord/Davison family. Hopefully they are all together again rejoicing in Heaven.

Remembering Mama Dell

August 26, 2016

I always remember my grandma up in the kitchen early in the morning, cooking breakfast! She always kept scrambled eggs, sausage, and bacon on the stove. There was also a hot kettle of water, so you could make your own grits or oatmeal!! The kitchen radio always played old gospel music on the weekends, and grandma always sang along. Love you Mama Dell!!!
