ForeverMissed

We were all blessed by this wonderful woman.  After a full life of love and happiness, Arlene Carswell left us on December 8, 2015.  She has now joined Bruce, the love of her life.  They will both be forever in our hearts.

We have set up this site in her memory.  The quotation above is from Kahlil Gibran's "The Prophet", one of Mom's favorite books.  And the music is from Beethoven, one of her favorite composers.

Please feel free to share your thoughts, stories, and photos in the tribute section below, by clicking the tabs above or the add photos button to the right.

With all our love,
Dix, Jan, Kevin and Betsy

Every day I try to put into practice the many lessons I learned from you and Dad. I hope that by following your example I have made some positive contribution to those around me and the world in general. With much love,
Kevin

“I know for certain that we never lose the people we love, even to death.
They continue to participate in every act, thought and decision we make.
Their love leaves an indelible imprint in our memories.
We find comfort in knowing that our lives have been enriched by having shared their love.” - Leo Buscaglia

"Your love remains the same
Do I make you proud? Mama, can you see me now?
Whatever's good in me is because you showed me how to take love by the hand."

Thinking of you Mom. The lessons you taught us as children have been an invaluable guide throughout our lives. Thank you, with love.

"A mother's love is always with her children. Losing a mother is one of the deepest sorrows a heart can know. But her goodness, her caring, and her wisdom live on-like a legacy of love that will always be with you. May that love surround you now and bring you peace."

As each year passes, I am more and more thankful for the values you and Dad taught us all. With much love, Kevin

If roses grow in heaven,
Lord please pick a bunch for me,
Place them in my Mother’s arms
and tell her they’re from me.

Tell her I love her and miss her,
and when she turns to smile,
place a kiss upon her cheek
and hold her for awhile.

Because remembering her is easy,
I do it every day,
but there’s an ache within my heart
that will never go away.

Arlene was dear to me. I spent some time today thinking of her and the hours I passed in the early 60's eating hot dogs in her kitchen during school recess or playing fort with Kevin in her basement. Those were such different times. But the sweet memories of them and Arlene linger with me. She was ever gentle and kind .

When my own parents passed it was a revelation, as if a curtain had been raised on a window to my life that, while always there, I could never before see through. I hope that in a similar way all who miss Arlene gain insight and peace from the event of her passing.

The photos on the site moved me greatly. Arlene was a beauty, of course, but the pictures also drew me back into times from memory and forward into the lives that her children have today fashioned with their own wives, children, and grandchildren. I now remember Arlene as if we were speaking when I was a small child. I have a seven-year-old son now myself, and I realize that I must have been his age when I knew her best. Life is indeed a web infinite beyond our comprehension.

I am sorry for her loss but happy for the blessings God has given us through her long, rich life.

When Kevin and I were kids, Mom challenged us by saying; "as you live your lives, always work to make the world a better place than you found it". No doubt you did that Mom..........love you!

“A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials heavy and sudden fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends desert us; when trouble thickens around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts.” ―Washington Irving

For what is it to die but to stand naked in the wind and to melt into the sun?

And what is it to cease breathing but to free the breath from its restless tides, that it may rise and expand and seek God unencumbered?

Only when you drink from the river of silence shall you indeed sing.

And when you have reached the mountaintop, then you shall begin to climb.

And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance.
-Kahlil Gibran, The Prophet
