Life is a drama of appearance and disappearance, just like a morning dew which fades away in the sun.
Birth is the entry into consciousness, death the exit to the great beyond,
But we do know that God is in control wherever we shall be found.
May the good Lord be with you Dr Yongbang. Amen.

If we had known we wouldn’t see you again after the last Thanksgiving dinner, we would have stayed longer, listen to more of your stories and life experiences. I really appreciate all of your advice and even though that was our first real interaction and conversation, I was amazed by your humility. You immediately embraced me like your son and made me and my family yours. I thank God for your life. Rest In Peace Daddy.

"For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain" Phil 1:21.
Life could be perceived as meaningless if it hasn't gotten a purpose.
Your faith in God helped many discovered the purpose of life.
Your help in creating a positive impact to your localities be that in your Christian faith, family or Professional world, depicts a true testament of a life with a purpose.
Many were motivated by your courageous act of expression via kindness and your writings.
Your faith in the Lord even at your last breath of life, is an exhibit of a life; true to its purpose.
Better put daddy, all the journey you made through life could be summarized in this one quote by Mitch Albom,"Love is how you stay alive; even after you are gone."
Adieu daddy!!! Rest to rise again.

When Mark Twain wrote that “The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.” he was basically describing the nature of a fulfilled life; and without knowing it, he encapsulated in such few words the enriching life of Dr. Arnold Yongbang and the soothing nature of the way he left us. That is why the legacy he left behind is prodigious.

“What is a legacy?” some would ask.

Most of us consider a man’s enriching legacy as the things he created or did that enhance humanity; and so we cherish the children he seeded and raised, the inventions he brought forth to improve the wellbeing of man, the creative works of his mind that are helping humanity appreciate the finer purpose of our existence in this world, and the sweet memories he left behind to nourish the souls of those he crossed paths with in his pilgrimage on earth.

Dr. Arnold Yongbang did all of those things and even more. He rekindled the flame of life in the sick; he was selflessly at the forefront of a cause for a people to regain their dignity, and he stood as the voice of humanity against even those who claimed to be on his side in the collective effort to right the wrongs of history. Dr. Arnold Yongbang left behind the legacy of a gardener that would last multiple lifetimes, a legacy that would be nurtured by his wife, progenitors and those who share his ideas.

The tears of those who love you and those you inspired are meant to say that they will miss you. But they understand that it was your time to leave this world of mortals after giving so much to make it better.
Adios in your journey to the realm of our ancestors and the Almighty. Thank you for the time we shared with you. We have your legacy to enrich our lives. May your soul Rest in Peace with the Lord, the Creator of All. AMEN!

Dearest Yongbang Family,
Mother and I haven't known Dr. Yongbang for a very long time, but it didn't take long to determine he was a wise, godly man who LOVED HIS FAMILY DEARLY.  I know this is a difficult time for all of you. You are all in our hearts and prayers.  Know that he is most definitely in Heaven with our Lord and he is not in pain nor is he suffering.  He awaits the arrival of the remainder of you as you serve your time on Earth as Christians.  We are thankful to have known him and will miss him greatly.  Love Always, Karen Sellers and Virgie Long

May the good Lord accept ypur gentle soul to His eternal abode. It was not by sheer luck that I came to your clinic with the message I drafted in the University of Yaounde in 1991 outline the plight of the Anglophone Child. As a father you received us and since then we became a family. From CAM to SCARM and AAC to SCNC, you were there and uncompromising to the restoration efforts. Today when some people think they started it, not knowing that some great men like you laid the foundation; and am proud learning from your meticulousness and spirit of patriotism to the motherland, today baptisedi as Ambazonia! Rest in Peace great one and greet our ancestors in yonder and in BLESSETH Memory !

It's with a very heavy heart that I write this tribute in honor of Dr. Arnold Boh Yongbang.
After sensitising Camerounians about the plight of Southern Cameroonians in Douala, he went ahead to spearhead the formation of the Cameroon Anglophone Movement (CAM). The main objective was to demand the French Cameroun government to treat English speaking people of Southern Cameroons with respect and their rights recognized. C A M grew and was renamed Southern Cameroons Restoration Movement (SCARM). This organization under the leadership of Dr Yongbang worked hard to organize AAC1 in Buea, and AAC2 in Bamenda.
Dr Yongbang worked relentlessly to restore the independence of the Southern Cameroons, now called Ambazonia.
He wrote profusely on matters related to the emancipation of the former British Trust Territory of the Southern Cameroons and did an excellent job in sensitising international organizations and governments on the plight of these people.
SCARM will continue to ensure that great sons of Ambazonia such as Dr Yongbang and Justice Ebong (who also passed away recently) are not forgotten. It will be recalled the Justice Ebong declared the independence of the Southern Cameroons over Radio Buea before he was incarcerated in the dreadful jails in Yaounde.
In addition to running a state-of-the-arts Hospital in Douala, Dr Yongbang took time to love and guard his beloved family, and provided philanthropic services to Catholic hospitals in Douala.
MAY THE SOULS OF DR YONGBANG AND JUSTICE EBONG REST IN PERFECT PEACE! AMEN.

You helped lay the ground work for our people, the people of Ambazonia, to find the rock of courage to pin their feet on, in a world run by powerful waves of international machination. You shall live in our hearts forever. Eben Egbe

Biography

June 23, 2019

Dr. Arnold Boh Yongbang joined his ancestors in heaven on May 24th, 2019 at 7:53 a.m. in Charlotte, North Carolina, U.S.A at the age of 85. He is survived by his wife, five children, eight grandchildren, five siblings, four sons-in-law, and many beloved relatives and friends.

Dr. Yongbang was born on March 12th, 1934 to a peasant family in Njinikom, British Southern Cameroons, known today as the NW Region. He attended St. Anthony's Primary School in Njinikom from 1939–1946 and graduated with a First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC). He worked as an elementary school teacher at the Catholic Mission in Njinikom from 1947– 1948 and later pursued his secondary education at St. Joseph's College Sasse, Buea, British Southern Cameroons from 1948–1954. He obtained his Cambridge Overseas School Certificate in 1954 and, thereafter, pursued his post-secondary education at St. Patrick's Higher School, Calabar, Nigeria from 1954–1956. He obtained his London Overseas Higher School Certificate in 1956 and returned to British Southern Cameroons that same year. He taught meritoriously at St. Joseph's College, Sasse, Buea from 1956-1957.

Dr. Yongbang's insatiable appetite for learning took him again to University College, Ibadan, Nigeria where he studied Pre-Med from 1957-1960. He completed his Clinical studies at the Nagpur Medical College, Maharashtra State, India from 1960–1964 and graduated with MB ChB degrees. He completed his internship at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences Hospital, New Delhi, India from 1964-1965. He worked as the Medical Officer to the Massey Street Children's Hospital, Lagos, Nigeria from 1965-1967.

Dr. Yongbang pursued his post-graduate training in Obstetrics & Gynaecology (OB/GYN) at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Nigeria from 1967–1969. He completed further specialty training at the Victoria Infirmary and the Glasgow Royal Maternity in Rottenrow, Scotland from 1969–1970. He also attended the London Post-Graduate Medical School from 1970-1971 and was admitted to Membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists (MRCOG) later that year.

Dr. Yongbang returned to his homeland, the Federal Republic of Cameroon (FRC), in 1971 and was immediately appointed the “Medecin Chef” (aka Chief Medical Officer) at “Maternite' Principale, Hopital Centrale”, Yaoundé, East Cameroun. He served as the Provincial Chief Medical Officer at Ministry of Public Health in NW Province from 1972-1976. He also served as the Provincial Delegate for Public Health in SW Province from 1976–1979. He was elected to the Fellowship of the West African College of Surgeons (FWACS) in 1978. He later served as the “Medecin Chef” in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Laquintinie Hospital, Douala, Littoral Province from 1979-1982. He was raised to the Fellowship of the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists (FRCOG) in June 1993.

Dr. Yongbang was the first physician born and raised in Njinikom. As an erudite and expert medical practitioner, he always wanted to use his vast wealth of medical experience to serve the underpriviledged people in his homeland. He resigned from the Cameroon civil service in 1982 to set up a specialist hospital for women and children in Bamenda but was systematically strong-armed by the state to open the state-of-the-art clinic in Douala. His clinic was repeatedly targeted — retainerships with state corporations were rescinded and the business levied with exorbitant, unrealistic taxes — by the autocratic Biya regime because of his political activism for the cause of the inherent and inalienable rights of the English-speaking peoples of the former British Southern Cameroons to self-determination and independence. As an uncompromising freedom fighter, he never abandoned the struggle despite incessant threats and harassments from the Biya regime.

Dr. Yongbang was the co-founder of the Cameroon Anglophone Movement (CAM), now the Southern Cameroons Restoration Movement (SCARM) - the vanguard movement championing the cause of self-determination and independence for the annexed and abused, brutalised and oppressed, state-terrorised and subjugated, dehumanised and exploited peoples of the former United Nations Trust Territory of the Southern Cameroons that was under British Administration. He was also the first National Treasurer of the Southern Cameroons National Council (SCNC), the umbrella organization seeking the liberation and independence of the Anglophone Southern Cameroons. He crisscrossed the globe advocating the SCNC platform and ensured that all diplomatic efforts carried with them the incisive hard-line edge of CAM/SCARM.

Until his death, Dr. Yongbang exercised his political and human rights activism as a freedom fighter in the struggle to free Southern Cameroons and its people from oppression, subjugation and the annexationist stranglehold of la Republique du Cameroun (LRC) and France. He died a staunch believer of the zero option declared by CAM in December 1993.

Dr. Yongbang’s legacy lives on in his children, books and the many lives he affectionately touched. He will be fondly remembered as a humble, principled, morally upright, kind husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, and a die-hard Southern Cameroons compatriot.

Doctor Is Here for Everybody

July 10, 2019

Doctor Is Here for Everybody...

Where can I start with my fondest memories of Dr. Arnold Boh Yongbang? Is it his beautiful gentle manner, peaceful smile and the way his wife, Juliet Njikam-Yongbang (Sister Julie) greeted everyone who came to their hospital to seek his medical care? How amused I was every time she joyfully said, “Doctor is here for everybody”? Is it how much concern he showed for me and my children as a brother-in-law and friend who loved me very much? Is it how he demonstrated that love by always taking in my children and caring for them when they were ill then sending them home healthy, happy and contented?

Everyone you loved was rewarded with the most peaceful smile anyone ever saw. Many people knew you did not smile much. That rare gem was given to your loved ones and in special moments. My children and I were fortunate to be among the recipients of that smile.

I always loved hearing you tell your stories in your soothing soft voice. The rapture in your face when you recounted how you proposed to Sister Julie, and the history of your beloved Cameroon. That same look, during those wonderful love stories, is immortalized in the photo taken recently of you and Sister Julie. The love expressed in that photo reminds me of how proud you were of your family. And, how you expressed it in so many ways. I remember with great pleasure how you brought them all to visit me in Tallahassee, FL. It was a very proud moment for me that I will always treasure.

Doctor, we are sad that you have been taken away from us so soon. You will always be remembered as the compassionate father and brother, uncle and friend to us. Most memorable, is that everywhere you went until the end, “the doctor was here for everybody”. It was more reassuring than you would ever know. Because during troubled times, your silent peaceful presence was calming. (John 14:27)

Everyone will remember with love, the Doctor who was there for everybody. We will always tell our children tales of how the doctor who was there for everybody touched our lives and theirs. How you made room for everyone who came into your life, passing out undeserved kindness to everyone you met and judging no one. How you are resting in peace in your Father’s house that has many rooms. (John 14:2). Stay close, my brother and friend. Your legacy lives on!

From Sister Lena Pamela, Catlin, Colin and Chantal (Nchako).
