Wells came to a stand still for the funeral Arthur Hill

April 1, 2013

The funeral service of Arthur Hill, who died at home suddenly on January 21st 2012, took place at Wells Cathedral on Monday 6th February. The service was conducted by reverend Tobie Osmond with Arthur's sister-in-law, Liza Clarke, reading a poem, Stanley Hopkins the bible reading and frank Shellard playing tribute to Arthur's life and reading Arthur's daughter Danielle's memories of her dad. The service was attended by over one thousand family and friends.

Arthur was born in Wells on June 29, 1939 and lived his whole life at Park Farm, Haydon, Wells. After the death of his father when Arthur was only 14 he stayed at home to run the family farm up to the 1980's when he started mendip shooting ground and ran it with his wife Sharon and son Vernon.

Arthur enjoyed all country pursuits with fishing and shooting being his favourite. Arthur was a member of the free Masons and was a councillor on the St. Cuthbert's Out Parish Council. Most of all, Arthur's family was the most important thing to him, his wife Sharon, children Danielle, Vernon and Louise, grandchildren Ben, Alex and George and great grand daughter Natasha.

Arthur was a larger than life character who will be sadly missed by Sharon and Danielle and his friends, but his memories will live forever.
