His Life and Legacy

February 13, 2021

Arthur was one of ten children born to the late Willard Wright and Annie Leftwich Wright on January 20, 1938 in Daingerfield, Texas.

Arthur graduated from J.J. Rhodes High School in Daingerfield, Texas in 1956. He then went on to attend Jarvis Christian College in Hawkins, Texas. After completing his first year of college he returned home due to the tragic loss of their family home. Instead of returning to school he stayed to help his father build a new home for the family.

In 1960,  Arthur joined his older siblings in Washington, DC,where he remained in the greater DC metro area the remainder of his life. In 1962 Arthur enlisted in the Army. While serving his country he completed Basic Airborne Training, Combat Training and Military Justice. He earned the Parachutist and Marksman Rifle Badge. In 1964, he transferred to the United States Army Reserves (USAR) and was honorably discharged from service on January 29, 1968.  He worked Security positions professionally and later retired from Murray's Food Distribution Warehouse in Forestville, MD.

Arthur was a pillar to the Clinton Manor Senior Community where he resided.  He was a volunteer and a helper to those in need. He used his security experience at Clinton Manor with Community Policing and he had the badge hanging in his front window and certificates on his wall to prove it. He was a humble man who took pride in his service to others and his community. He earned the love and respect of the residents and management and it was reciprocated. He is truly going to be missed by all who knew him.

Arthur was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; William, George, Fred and Warren; and five sisters; Annie Lou, Jestina, Catherine, Dossie and Georgia.

Arthur leaves to cherish his memories: one son; Andy (La Tresha) Smith of Tyler, Texas, one daughter; Georgia, one brother; Burnon Charles Wright of Gaithersburg, MD; one sister; Constance Whitmore of Dallas,Texas and one sister in law; Madell Wright of Washington, DC; five grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
