Dear aunty, my memories of you are those of fondness and beauty. Your love for fashion, colour and elegance.

That which comes to me so often is when you always told me that “ah! Yom-yom, (as you often called me) no news is good news,” whenever it takes a while before I speak with you on the phone.

The most treasured time, I remember was in August 1978, during summer holidays. You invited us to your house in Pimlico, London, so that you and I could celebrate our birthdays together since mine is 5 days before yours. We had two cakes, and took some photos, it was my 5th birthday, it was amazing!!

I thank God for you being a part of my life, you were always sincere and straightforward, hardworking with a large heart.  Wherever you went you made an impact.  May your soul continue to rest in peace aunty.

Last week, we had to say goodbye to Grandma, it hit me how incredibly lucky I have been to have my lovely grandmother with me for 17 years. The kind of love Grandma felt for us was a love without condition. She lived a simple life. It did not take much to make her happy—a phone call, a card, a visit, or a kiss before saying good night. I would also remember her smile whenever I came to visit her, and we would sit and talk about old times and watch movies together. I would miss her smile and her warm hugs; I could not have asked for a better grandma. You are forever in our hearts, I love you grandma.

Tribute for a special Aunty
by Bisi Osindero

My mind raced a thousand times when I heard about your passing. I was heartbroken, but I know you are in a good place joyful and cheerful as you were, looking down on your loved ones. An amazing woman, a pacesetter, classy with true professionalism. Aunty you were the embodiment of a beautiful woman who positively impacted my life in so many ways as a young child through to adulthood.
As a teenager at boarding school Aunty instinctively stood in the gap, reduced my stress, provided a safe haven and made sure I was not alone. She was so special to me then and always.
Until hearing of your passing I took comfort in knowing a close Aunty was around, and I could get to hear your voice anytime. Distance made it harder to be in physical presence, but the sound and tone of your voice expressed love like my feelings for you dear Aunty.
I mourn your demise but celebrate your life. May your soul rest in eternal peace.

She was a real genuine and loving sister.

Mummy mummy mummy hmm went to your room as usual afer my walk for our usual morning chat on Easter Monday but you were missing, sat there for sometime but no one to carry on small talk with. Hmm. Remembered your lovely smile that you bestowed on me all my life but dint begin to appreciate until I got much older. Remembered how 'strong' you were as you went through your abasing and abounding seasons. My friends, cousins and I have been reminiscing and I'm realising just how accommodating and diplomatic you were. Thank u for loving me enough to push me to be a better version of myself. Miss you and see you In heaven eventually.

I feel bad and guilty, having to type this TRIBUTE. However, I appreciate the privilege to be invited by as a family friend, and as the eldest in the What's Apps forum of the assiciation of staff of the defunct Nigeria Hotels Limited, NHL.

Weeks before Pastor Adefunke Alamutu was called to eternal rest, she sent me prayers and blessings which were occasionally acknowledged. On one occasion, I responded telling her that I owed her a visit. On another occasion, I called her, and after brief chat, I repeated the promise to visit her. COVID 19 cancelled an outing planned by Messrs. Olalemi, Akinsanya and me for a visit to the ROCK.May the Lord Jesus help us to learn tolook after the living, and not the dead.

Yoruba customs and tradition discourages older person from attending the funeral of a younger person. In the same vein, I would have wished that she was writing a TRIBUTE to me, and not i writing for her.
On my first encounter with Pastor 'Funke Alamutu, I was informed by her late husband, Apostle Sam Alamu, that she initiated the invitation to me to join NHL when I was in the final year at hotel school in UK. She took a copy of the Daily Times in which was my photo operating as a bar manager to show her husband, then the Manager ikoyi Hotel, who in turn forwarded it to Mr .Drew Frayne, the GM in UK on leave.

Pastor Adefunke Alamu is very hospitable, combining Calabar hospitality with her husband's hotel hospitality. Her No 10 Lee's Road was rendezvous for annually end of year parties.
She held the home front, and stood firmly by her husband all through the golden age and the dark age of NHL.
She is humle, amiable and pleasant.. I remember one incidence when the hotel security was checking her car. She did did not mind.

I remember her in her immaculate white, nurses' uniform at the CBN.where she was a very senior staff.

When the family relocated on retirement to the ROCK In Abeokuta, she ran a nursery school, and next door was a young lady; whom she later later found out was of Oduyoye family. She immediately adopted Bisi Ehinika mentoring her in the institution of marriage.
She partnered her husband to establish The Rock Foundation- a Christian ministry NGO with international network.

All of us in the NHL Family will miss her dearly. May her gentle soul rest peacefully with her creator, and may He console Funmi, Ayo, Sola, Bimpe and Bayo; as well as the entire Alamutu and Osidero families in Jesus name.

Aunty was that beautiful, elegant and classy woman I always admired in the Osindero clan. Her thoughtful and inspiring words for every occasion as well as her calm demeanor endeared many to her. May aunty's soul continue to rest in the bosom of the One who called her home. Adieu Anty Augusta Alamutu.

I pray for peace and understanding for everyone in a state of confusion and pain. Grandma was the closest thing I’ve ever had to a biological grandma and I wouldn’t replace my memories with her for anything.

I hope everyone is able to celebrate her because she deserves nothing more but celebration for the life she lived and impact she left behind. My relationship and understanding of God only begun when I met Sharon and got close to grandma and for this I’m forever grateful.

I was an international student so I never got my mum on visiting day but grandma never forgot that extra plate or drink. I wish I spent a little more time with her because as an adult now the gems and knowledge would’ve been priceless but I’m grateful I managed to experience her.

I pray for her soul, I pray for peace understanding and strength.

No time better than Gods time.... Fly high grandma ❤️

TRIBUTE FOR MY FRIEND: **Mrs. AUGUSTA OLUFUNKE *ALAMUTU* by
  Rev. Mrs. Bolanle Adefeso

My dear Funke’s death came as a big shock to me on Easter Sunday, 3 April 2021. I was very upset, almost confused, but I remembered the Scriptures in 1 Corinthians 15:55-57 that says “O death, where is your sting? O hades, where is your victory? The sting of death is sin and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ”. My Funke passed to glory on Holy Saturday, exactly two hours to the day we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Where do I start to write about my darling Funke, a relationship that started over 63years ago at the School of Nursing, University College Hospital, Ibadan in January 1958. We became instant friends because she was beautiful, intelligent, jovial, always smiling, hardworking, diligent and humble. We were friends with two other girls and we became a foursome: Mrs. Bode Awojobi, Mrs. Sola Fatunmbi (of blessed memory), Funke and myself. We did a lot together, encouraged each other, and compared notes. I admired Funke so much because she was a very confident lady and had a ready solution to every problem.

Mr. Samuel Alamutu, who later became Funke’s husband, arrived from the United Kingdom and worked at Ikoyi hotels, Lagos. He was a very good friend of Mr. Ade Adefeso, the man I was in courtship with then, and later got married to, who worked at UCH, Ibadan. Alam as he was fondly called, came from Lagos at weekends to spend time with Ade, his friend. On one such visit to Ade in Ibadan, Alam met my friend, Funke and fell head over heels in love with her in 1960 and they were married in 1961. Ade was the best man at their wedding in Lagos.

We thank God that Alam and Funke’s union was blessed with lovely, adorable children: Olufunlayo, Ayodele, Olusola, Adebimpe, Adebayo and many grandchildren.

I was at Alam and Funke’s 50th Wedding Anniversary in Year 2011 at Abeokuta, a very grand occasion indeed.

Alam and Funke loved and served God whole-heartedly with their time, talent and treasure. They both had a Ministry that helped many upcoming ministries to rise and stand firmly. They were both on fire for Christ and they passed this legacy to all their children.

After Alam passed on to glory in December 2011, Funke faithfully carried on the work of their Ministry of which she invited me and I was privileged to attend in Abeokuta few years ago.

Funke took good care of not only her children but also her grandchildren as she was guardian to a few of them.
She also took good care of many children who were brought to her day care to enable their parents go to work or do their business.

It was such a delight to be invited to Funke’s 85th Virtual birthday celebration on the 25th of August 2020. It was a very good ceremony. I gave Funke’s toast on that day, with her looking so radiant and happy.

We got in touch with each other daily on WhatsApp as I sent her daily Bible Verses and she sent me prayers till March 2021.

All I could say in conclusion about my good friend, Funke are the words of St. Paul in 2 Timothy 4:7-8 “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. There is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge will give to me on that Day.

We love you my dear friend Funke, but God loves you more. Rest in perfect peace.

May the Lord watch over your children, and grandchildren whom you have left behind and the Lord comfort us all in Jesus Name. Amen
