Auguster Talley was my beloved uncle and I greatly admired him. He was the "cool cat" within the family. He always had a special sense of style and was a very sharp dresser. He always drove some of the best looking cars and he was always accompanied by beautiful women. Years ago when I was promoted to the rank of Major in the US Army, I ran into him at a local bar called the F&W Control Tower which was his favorite "Watering hole".  At that time he FINALLY stopped looking at me as if I was still a small child and he finally accepted me not only as a mature adult, but as a fellow Military Veteran. He began to confide in me and he told me several unnerving stories from years ago about his tour of duty in Viet Nam. If you have ever seen that war movie called "Apocalypse Now" which depicted a US Navy Patrol Boat going upriver, you would have seen what Auguster Talley did in Viet Nam. His missions were to pick up and deliver US Navy Seals up and down the river, deep into enemy territory. Many times his boat came under heavy fire from the Viet Cong and from the NVA; and twice he had boats shot out from under him. Most of his assigned missions were classified as being SECRET and at times TOP SECRET and because of such, he never fully received the credit for what he actually did. When he finally mustered out of the Navy, he suffered with nightmares and with a drinking problem. These days it would be considered severe PTSD. But look at what he went through, and no wonder. Now he is finally at peace and has been redeployed to a resort that is simply out of this world. His muscles and youthful vigor has been completely restored to where he is now in finer form than when he was in his prime. Everything he ever wanted is available simply for the asking and can be paid for with just a smile. Each day is a celebration and he is surrounded by people who love and care for him dearly, which includes relatives from previous generations. When the time comes for us to join him over there, he will be waiting to welcome every one of us with a smile on his face.
